Honda is known to have been cooking up a successor to its superb roadster for a while, but few details have leaked out. In the November 2008 issue of Road & Track, Sam Mitani (International Editor) dishes some juicy nuggets of info on the so-called "S3000". I've met Sam a few times, and not only is he a nice guy, but seems to be pretty well connected in Japan, so chances are pretty good that his report on the "S3000" has some accuracy to it.

Mitani states that there have been rumors concerning the possibility of a 3.0 or 3.5L V6 finding its way under the bonnet of the next-generation sports car, but also says that a 2.2-2.5L 4-cylinder would be the "more probable choice".

While Honda recently revealed their OSM (Open Study Model) Concept at the 2008 British International Motor Show, it is said that the OSM is not the S2000-successor, though the next-generation sports car will likely share some of the OSM's design language. The key difference will be the origin of the design team - the OSM came from Honda's European design studio while the next generation sportscar design will be mostly influenced from Japan.

And finally, Mitani states that the S2000's front-engine, rear wheel drive layout will carry forward with the new sportscar (and we sincerely hope he's right on that one!).
