Honda rumoured to add hybrid powertrain to Fit and CR-V

The Green Car Congress reports that Honda will add hybrid versions of the Fit and CRV within the next two years. The CRV will be appearing first in late 2006, and the Fit Hybrid following in mid-2007. The Fit will use the three cylinder hybrid engine and motor from the Insight, which will continue in production as a fuel-efficient halo vehicle.

For myself, the Fit is the more exciting release. The 1.5L engine does not deliver the fuel economy of the Yaris, its direct competitor, so a well-sorted hybrid would give Hondaphiles an a great alternative to Yaris.

UPDATE: The Fit hybrid rumor has been around for a while and is all over the Japanese media. But we've never heard anything of substance about the CR-V getting a hybrid option and in fact Takeo Fukui stated within the past 12 months that there were no sport utility hybrids in the three year plan, so there is very little likelihood of seenig a hybrid CR-V in the next 2 years.
