In the past several days we've been receiving an alarming amount of virus-spawned worm e-mails and erroneous error messages from well-meaning mailservers. Undoubtedly many of you have received these as well. These are the result of the recent W32/MyDoom (aka Mydoom, MIMAIL, Novarg) worm attack. Like past worms, this new attack spoofs the return address shown in the e-mail header, so we've been getting a lot of "virus detected" responses from mailservers (why oh WHY haven't they figured out that these worms use forged return addresses?!?) who have received these worm mails with our e-mail addresses forged in the "From:" field. There are several worm attacks underway right now and the whole internet is infested. PLEASE take a moment to updated your virus definitions and scan your PCs for these worms.
If you've e-mailed us in the past few days and you don't get a response in a reasonable amount of time (0-4 days) then it's likely that your message was lost in the flood (I'm personally seeing many dozens per hour) of these worm e-mail messages.
More information is available at the following links:
Symantec - they offer a removal tool
hcName=mydoom" target="_blank">McAfee
TrendMicro
If you do not have antivirus software on your computer, it is strongly recommended that you purchase it. You can scan your system for free at TrendMicro's Housecall website.
NOTE: To mitigate this issue we may need to install a whitelist component to our mailserver. This will require one extra confirmation step the next time you e-mail something to us.
