We received an email this morning showing two different trim levels in the dealer order system for the 2018 Civic Type R, base and Touring. Note that there will also be a 2017 Civic Type R, but we have confirmed that it will only be offered in the Touring trim level (see update below).
First of all, it feels great just knowing that we're this much closer to being able to get our hands on the first-ever Civic Type R in the US market. Secondly, for those who are planning to pre-order a Civic Type R, it begs the question of "what's the difference between the two trims?"
The subject of our Civic Type R walk-around video that we posted last week was the Touring trim level, and it's unclear what exactly will differentiate the two models, but from what product planner Rob Keough was saying in the video, it sounds like the key difference will be the presence (or absence) of built in Navi in the display audio system. Other than that, we really don't know, unless maybe some of the interior trim pieces will be upgraded in the Touring level.
UPDATE: It's been confirmed that the only trim level for the 2017 Civic Type Rs will be the Touring trim level. When we reached out to them, Honda responded that they could not comment on their plans for the 2018 model year. But from the order system information that was submitted to us, it appears that there may be two different trim levels offered in the 2018 model year.
