Got an email from Honda a few days ago announcing the brand new Ridgeline Tailgate Lock Set. Anyone else? Appears to be physical key-based only, cannot tell if it requires the Tonneau cover, cannot find in their online Accessories site.

Interestingly, a few months back, I was asked to complete an online survey about Ridgeline tailgates -- how I rated dual mode, would a locking mechanism be desirable, dampened drop down, etc. I guess they must be giving real consideration for the future.

Thanks for the info. Still half ass attempt.

The lock should be tied into the fob and the auto locking system. Just as the lock of the in trunk bed is.

I still think that this just shows how Honda is learning to do trucks. Some teams must have missed some meetings and you got the issues with the tonneau blocking the trunk door so that light is blocked at night. Then you got the lack of lock on the tailgate that exposes your nice $1000 tonneau to get stolen in two minutes by two guys.

Still half assed attempts. I have no doubt this will be solved in the third generation.

But know what? The first gen Accord and Civic were HOME RUNS.

Yeah, but they were designed in Japan, and probably had Soichiro standing at the drawing board looking over the designer's shoulder.

Home runs? I recall going with my Dad for a test drive in a brand new Honda Civic, maybe 1973 or 74. I was in high school, and with my father and salesman in front, I could *not* actually sit in the back seat, had to swing my feet up on the bench sideways. The Civic could barely make it up a hill with 3 adults inside.

Well, me and my buddies were about 5'8" to 5'11'' and four of us fit in my '77 Civic Wagon.

It wasn't the most powerful thing around but it got going and kept the speed. Living in the NorthWest we had lots of steep hills and I drove it just fine.

Many of my friends got Civics around then. Most got the two door 4MT, some got the 5MT hatch... wow!
