So nine days after Renault and Ferrari fire-up their engines we have Mercedes and then Honda fire-up their power units. Awesome - and as I suspected/personally predicted (in my thoughts) Honda was going to be last - leaving developments (hopefully) to the last minute!

Maybe I am wrong - But I have gnawing feeling Mercedes (leaving the fire-up this late) is starting to feel the pressure from not just Ferrari... but from Honda as well! Hopefully that will come to fruition rather than just a feeling! ;-)

I know how excited you get this time of year, Vxtec. Just a reminder that we will have access to any press material Red Bull provides and will post it in a separate thread. Don't let that stop you from posting things in this thread if you can get the pics up before we do.
Also we will have out usual day-by-day summary threads of the winter test.

Yes, I am aware of your separate thread so I am only updating reagarding news around the reveals/launches. Once testing begins, I leave it in your capable hands to running day-by-day summary threads of all the winter testing news... and I will be posting from time-to-time!

Exciting times for us Honda F1 fans!

Yes, exciting times for all of us here who follow Honda F1...

and just wait for what I have install for everyone here at TOV in the not too distant future... however lips are sealed... you will just have to wait with great anticipation...wink, wink, say no more!! ;-) ;-)

Well in the dimly lit CGI video, if they didn't tell you it was a new car you wouldn't know it without close inspection.

I do notice implementation of the McLaren gills just aft and under the nose.

Yes, that was the first obvious feature I noticed... 3 slots rather than two used on last year's car!

The STR14 rear-end and then some is shared with the Red Bull... so there is a little/tiny hint of the look of the Red Bull too!

I am so glad they retained last year's livery... because it is so attractive and so nice to look at!

More comments to come... :-)

Further comments on differences between these year's STR14 and last year's STR13 coming up...

Firstly (or second if the front side-gills was first!) are the layered/channeled and tighter side-pods - reducing drag however allowing more downforce to be created.

The obvious ones:

New specification front wing as stipulated by regulation...although I am already noticing differences to the Haas front wing... different design of endplate lip and length and a couple of channeled grooves underneath the front wings.

The rear view mirrors are no longer slotted and placed further outboard as per regulations.

The bargeboard arrangement is quite different however it seems quite elegant in terms of aerodynamic efficiency.

The entry to air intake has been modified although the opening is of similar size to last year.

The rear wing is wider and slightly taller than last year's one as per regulation...however, there is no T-wing (yet?unlike Haas) and the attachment and DRS deployment is a much tidier set-up - reducing airflow disturbances and drag.

More to come as I analyse each available photo released by STR.

The mirrors attach to the side pods and also to the chassis, similar to the Haas solution. The barge boards don't take advantage of the full length awarded to them by the regulations. I'd expect to see updates in that area. The upper wishbones on the front suspension are now attached to the hub within the wheel.

The HALO winglets are deleted (for now!?)… and the rear part of the HALO attachment to chassis is modified (similar to Haas).

Back to the front wing... a cleaner design of the five elements and the fifth top element is somewhat thinner than on the Haas front wing.

Yes, however further to those comments the upper wishbones are attached to the chassis nose/tub in a narrower cross-section and possibly slightly higher with the resulting step in the nose (although not the extreme of last year's Force India nose).

The lower ends of the bargeboards have forward projecting 'quad-fingers' to adjust airflow around the side of the car - possibly generating small vortices to direct airflow away from rear tyres.
