Acura leapfrogged Cadillac into the fifth-place spot, selling 158,934 vehicles and topping the American brand by 4,232 units.

Overall, U.S. luxury sales dipped 0.4 percent to 217,338 cars and light trucks in December. For the year, luxury vehicle demand fell 0.3 percent to 2,027,312 even as overall industry volume edged up 0.6 percent.

A big jump up to 4th place though: Audi was 4th at 223,323 sales.

However - it's always a good thing when you can grow sales in a shrinking market - as luxury was down this year overall.

Acura's post-recession sales peak is 177K sales in 2015 I think. That was the first full year of TLX sales which were over 45,000.

I don't know that Acura will grow by quite that much in 2019 - but a full year of RDX sales combined with the rumors of all-new products should seem growth again in 2019.

Acura will definitely be in better shape as new models are introduced and I think they will actually be in far better shape once the TLX and MDX get their replacements.
