Well, we'll see where this goes. You can go back 10-20 years and look at all the proclamations that have been made about next-gen battery tech that's "just around the corner" yet none of them have been made commercially viable.

I do like the sound of a 10-fold increase in energy density. That nicks one of the critical flaws of the archaic Li-Ion tech with which we're currently stuck.

Oh don't worry Jeff, with my home state of Western Australia about to explode with new lithium mines and processing plants it'll just be our luck the technology will become redundant within the decade! :)

On another front I remember attending an awards night at my son's University, and the young man who won the top award in nano technology had come up with a way to store electricity in nano-carbon based batteries, sort of. That was 7-8 years ago, and we're not hearing anything, yet??

Then I'm reminded that the Lithium battery was "discovered" in 1912............

I'm all for EVs, just not Li-ion EVs. With their natural flammability and incremental improvement in energy density over NiMH, they just aren't good enough.

It's a very interesting development by Honda, if it can be made to work. The energy-density thing is crucial.

Of course, fluorine is pretty nasty and it requires a few rare earths, so it is substituting one set of problems for another...

And yes, we're probably a few decades away from a truly revolutionary accumulator.
