Don't think this is that complicated - it's about the "look" of the truck and not the actual ability.

Honda is telling you who they think will buy this truck by having a Touring AND an Elite trim with the 20" wheels standard.

The Sport Trim is disappointing because it's the one trim that could have/should have had more of an actual "off-road" focus. Smaller wheels, even something like a vinyl floor instead of carpet. Pretty damn simple stuff actually.

I agree. The Sport trim should be the one with smaller wheels and easier to wash interior. I'm sure the Passport will do everything the advertisements show it doing, but it will not be fun with thin tires.

I'm not entirely sure why people are hung up about this thing being good "off road". It's obviously not, at least in the same way a Trail Rated Jeep, Toyota FJ or certain trucks are. The most people are going to do in terms of "off roading" is parking on the side of the road in a park, maybe launching a boat, or going a few hundred meters into public land.

Then again, Honda marketed it as a "unique blend" of off road and on road capability, with a general bent on outdoorsy-ness. While in that sense this is a poser-mobile, for example it still has lower ground clearance than the Outback (and again, approach and departure angles still to be seen), it seems quite clear it fits the general "mid size SUV" niche that Honda desperately needs to compete against vehicles like the Grand Cherokee.

I really wish that Honda didn't try so hard with the #marketing and just let the vehicle sell itself.
