Monaco. That one word evokes thoughts of glitz, glamor, spectacle, and great racing in the minds of Formula 1 fans and drivers alike. And that's where F1 will be this weekend, racing on the shortest track of the season and one that has seen Formula 1 Grands Prix every year since 1955.

Monaco should present an opportunity for Toro Rosso Honda to make up for some of the bad luck and inconsistency of the early races. Having one car score points here can be expected and, given the unpredictable nature of the race, two might be possible. Even on this non-power-dependent circuit and amid the allure of this place, Canada will be in the back of eveyone's mind as Honda is set to introduce its first major engine upgrade.

Elsewhere on the grid, in Monaco it is not so cut-and-dry to say that one team is a favorite to win, although it is probably safe to say one of the top three will be atop the podium. Merc. will hope to build on the form it showed in Spain. Ferrari may actually have a better car for Monaco, though. Red Bull is counting on its chassis design prowess to jump ahead of their usual spots on the grid on this power-insensitive circuit. The rest is anyone's guess as Haas, Renault and McLaren mix it up in the middle. One thing is for sure: anything can happen at Monaco.

The safe money says Red Bull but its a weird circuit, you may see another team surprise, I just hope it isn't the papaya coloured ones !
I really hope STR-H have a clean weekend and that they avoid the inevitable carnage and Grosjean .....
Vettel is pretty handy around there so I am going for a Max V win, followed by Vettel and Danny Ric third ( sorry Sadlerau !! )

Grrrrrrr.

I think Ricciardo's super smooth style will see him come to the fore, if he can settle the updates waywardness. :)

Ricciardo is good here. If the Mercedes doesn't have tire issues, Hamilton will be in the mix, too. I'd really like to see Kimi snag a victory, but I don't think that'll happen.

The two TR drivers are rookies. Gasly has raced here, but never been very successful. I figure Gasly finishes just outside of the points and Hartley crashes out.

Looking forward to the race regardless. I'm in awe of the top drivers ability to carry the speed they do around Monaco, and it seems the Ultras are going to be a hoot!

It would just be more enjoyable if young Verstappen would show a little more respect to his fellow drivers, let alone a team mate (even if he's the one you most have to beat). Ultimately there is very little to choose between them when you consider their speed, they just attain it in a different way.

Exactly. His youth can only carry excuses for exuberance for so long. You can lose a race in a split second around here but gain hugely by being a tad circumspect in the mayhem of the first few races.
As usual a good quali is all important. If Lewis isn't in one of his dour moods then he is capable of flying around there

I'd be happy if one of them has a clean race (finishing after putting four times doesn't count :) :) :) )

Hopefully, there will be no STR cars to repair after hitting the wall for the entire race week at Monaco - especially if it means missing out on qualifying (like in the previous F1 race)!

Anything can happen at Monaco, particularly with storms predicted from Thursday through to Saturday - although Sunday should be just partly cloudy and a maximum of 25 °C.

Considering the high probability of at least one safety car period, can there be a very surprising result - where everything aligns perfectly/falls into the STR lap and a Toro Rosso-Honda driver is on the podium or even wins the race? Wishful thinking??? … the extraordinary is always possible at Monaco!!! Yeah! :-)

At this stage no rain is predicted on Sunday.

Ummm...Ricciardo might be the one to pick as almost a certainty on the podium (without incidents!), if not the race winner. :-)

I'd love to see RAI win, I'd also like to see RIC win. I'd be content not seeing HAM or VER on the podium.

HAR lives in Monaco so who knows, maybe he'll surprise. For his sake, the team, and fans I hope he does.

The pressure will be huge on Hartley to avoid hitting the wall throughout the race week at Monaco (even with local knowledge)...Hartley focus...focus...focus... you can achieve great things! :-)

Hartley came very close to hitting the wall in FP1 at the last turn - but has remained focused and testing the limits!

At the end of FP1, Hartley is in 12th position (however, with a time close to those in positions 9th to 11th) and Gasly is 14th - both are ahead of the McLaren drivers!

FP2 ends and top ten are:

1st Ricciardo

2nd Verstappen

3rd Vettel (0.572s behind)

4th Hamilton (0.695s behind)

5th Raikkonen

6th Bottas

7th Hulkenberg

8th Vandoorne

9th Alonso

10th Sainz

Hartley is 11th (one position up on FP1) and Gasly is 14th (same as in FP1). However, they are about 0.5s closer to the fastest lap than in FP1 and in striking distance of 7th position (best of the rest after top 3 teams) - a tight mid-pack group!

Looking foward to FP3 and Qualifying on Saturday - hopefully, at least one STR car makes it into Q3!

New parts appear to be fitted to Gasly's car only for Thursday, as far as I can make out.

https://scuderiatororosso.redbull.com/en_INT/article/monaco-gp-free-practice-1
Hartley (STR13-03, Car 28) : I'm happy to get the new updated aero parts that Pierre was running in the first two sessions.

Eddolls (Chief Race Engineer) : However, we did come here with new aero parts which we fitted to one of the cars.

Well, well, well... yes, it's only FP3 (however it is the last practice before Qualifying)…

Toro Rosso-Honda are best of the rest - Hartley 7th and Gasly 8th fastest... yes, there was the Red Flag due to Verstappen crashing late in FP3, nevertheless a great achievement by STR!

1st Ricciardo

2nd Verstappen

3rd Vettel

4th Raikkonen

5th Hamilton

6th Bottas

7th Hartley

8th Gasly

9th Sainz

10th Sirotkin

and the McLarens? 'Obviously' not in the top ten - Vandoorne 11th and Alonso 15th.

Looking forward to Qualifying in just over 90 minutes.

Yes, unfortunate for Verstappen - hopefully, Red Bull team will be able to repair the car for him in time for qualifying (or at least 5 mins before Q1 ends).

It will be great to have the Red Bull cars lock-out the front row!
