AB has the pictures up and they are saying that the red calipers are Brembo...has Honda ever used Brembo before?

Also why are Brembo brake pads so much better than everything else? I feel like everybody uses them.

I believe 3rd gen TL 6-speed used Brembo (black with Acura logo).

Why better? It's like every other sector.... there's always someone who's the best in business.
I know that they do a ton of R&D and supply most of the performance cars.

I don't necessarily think they're better than everybody else. And it's not just the pads, it's the calipers too.

Brembos have just created a performance brand name image that resonates with enthusiasts. As a manufacturer, you can procure equivalent performance from "no-name" OEMs as long as you spec them equivalently. But you don't get any marketing pop.

They have a good image and good sales department. You can also purchase kits from AP, Wilwood, etc. Some manufacturers are active mainly in aftermarket, Brembo´s orientation is mainly OEM, in terms of suc special projects like CTR.

In terms of calipers, they're pretty good and taking something off of their shelf saves some engineering effort on the OE's part. As for pads, they're far from the best but as others stated, they're a staple brand in the industry now. I happen to think Carbotech is making some of the best pad compounds available right now but you'd never see them on a production car, or at least not advertised anyway because far fewer people know the name.

I don't recall the dc2r having Brembo's, maybe you meant dc5r which did, and also the fd2r had brembos.

Interesting that Autoexpress said that Japan is developing this type r!!

Sorry - brain fart. I meant the DC5R.

I have one in the cabinet...

They're not badged as such.

But they do look rather sexy compared to the usual Nissin cup noodles one finds on Hondas.

I have one of those in the cabinet as well.

If memory serves me, they were 4 pistons of an unnamed design. I always thought they bought the Brembos for the TL and reverse engineered their own design.

My 5R as has already been mentioned came with Brembos and the pads were from Ferodo.

Who makes the regular unbranded sliding calipers? Off the top of my head I can think of several performance brands I'd be happy with. Why not use brakes from Honda tuners, or even race partners? What brand of brakes are they running on the WTCC cars?

Well, answered my own question above. The Keihin HSV uses Alcon and the CTR uses AP Racing.

Endless, Spoon, Mugen also come to mind, although I guess spoon and Mugen don't actually manufacture the components.

I think that it would be more fitting to use Akebono. If they're good enough for McLaren's then they should be good for the CTR. The F1 calipers are a thing of beauty. They make some great pads as well.
