Same here, my tsx wouldn't be around for long either if this showed up. Bring it like it is, a 5 door and have a manual option, I don't want it in a coupe or sedan or as a DCT. Maybe, all the interest generated by this thread will prod Honda to seriously consider it, who am I kidding

It wont be a VTEC. Something about the EU regulations wont allow it... So by it not coming to the US and lacking a trademark Honda sound and being turbocharged, it really doesn't interest me.

There isn't a new Honda sold with the trademark Honda sound.

I will have to put a CAI and at least an axle back on my Accord to get close.

It will have i-VTEC but with the new green laws it just won't sound as a good as a NA engine with a 9000 rpm redline.

So don't blame Honda.

Blame the people who voted in your GOV'T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know who to blame. A 5 liter Mustang still sounds pretty awesome in 2013, so there has to be something in the engineering.

V8 has twice as many combustion events per crank revolution. So at 4000 rpm there are as many explosions firing as a K20 at 8000rpms. That's not all of it, of course. There are tuned resonances in the intake and exhaust tracts, of course, but in general, it's easier to produce more desirable sounds as the cylinder counts increase.

Got boost? It sounds like a jet lol. Honda is a little late to the 2 liter turbo scene but hopefully the turbo technology is more advanced. Can't wait to see the gen10 Si or maybe our own Type-R? :)

I have a TL with a J series in it, and it sounds really, really fantastic. I always thought the J's were very "Honda" sounding.

Is your coupe really that different/worse?

My old J32 in the 04 TL 5AT was a really strong motor with lots of pull all the way to the redline.

Now, my old J30 in the 05 Accord 6MT was actually better, I used to bury it in the redline all the time because I'd forget to shift.

I wouldn't say they sounds fantastic because I reserve that for only my Alfa Romeo with a K&R air filter (!), my GSR with the B18C and my 64 1/2 Mustang 289 V8/3MT with dual exhausts.

But the aforementioned J engines in those two cars did sound very good, with a lower pitch than the 4 cylinders and a somewhat more muted intake wail.

If you think about it, a 3.2 or a 3.0 V6 has a per cylinder displacement close to a 2.0L I4 so.... yep... those smaller J engines seriously rip.

I've only driven the J35s in an Odyssey so I have no experience with the current J engines in the Accord 6MT or the TL.

Ahem, it's not the EU that's gone nuts as usual ... they obviously haven't passed a law banning VTEC engines. This is a garbled version of "Honda don't want to make the K20 comply with the latest regulations and so are going to stop selling the FN2 CTR" which is what killed off the CTR slightly before the rest of the 8G Civics were replaced by the 9G.

True. Otherwise a LOT of engines with variable lift (Nissan, Porsche) would be in trouble. I dunno where these ideas start.

In any case, these mad regulations are created by the elite, so will be in the US around the same time as in Yerp.

In fact, California usually leads the world in greenie regulations. Oh, but then it's gone tits up, so probably Mexico will take over...you'll all be driving Beetles, soon!

(1) Nope. We won't be able to afford a Beetle.. Likely we'll be living in Gov. owned public huts and riding a borrowed donkey. (Actually, I'll be long gone from Ca. before that happens).

(2) What is it about the EU regulations that killed VTEC? We've had VTEC in California for eons and as you note we have rather strict regulations... heck, even European diesels are not welcome here... so what did the EU pull this time? What draconian rules are they passing on gasoline cars nowadays?

(3) Do German Panzers run on algae fuels now? Obama will be pleased.

Euro regs(tax) the Carbon release per km.

Its a very low number.

Cali doesn't do that.

Airlines are now taxed on their carbon output because they don't meet EU carbon laws and they will never will. But most airlines told them to f-off or we will not fly there. The oil sheiks took it another step, you tax our airlines and we will take back all our money invested in the EU economy and shut off your oil tap.

Eh? I always thought EU and Japanese regulations were laxer, up until Euro5. So Europe and Japan always got the carbon munching engines while the US was always saddled with the limp-wristed "equivalent."
