Page 3: Track Conditions

Texas World Speedway itself is in very good shape. There have been some repairs made since the last time we were here. There are a few sections where the course is a bit slipperier than other areas, and one particular section is a bit rough, but overall, it is a nice track. The weather managed to hold-up through both days with only a few raindrops very early on day 1. Day 2 brought temperatures in the low 90s, which caused everyone's tires to heat up and get a bit slick early in their sessions. A good amount of spins occurred on session 2 of day 2. These spins were mostly the last, as after lunch, the event leader informed us that individuals would not be able to drive for the rest of the day if they spun any more.

And some more cars on track.

There was lots of good in-field action too.

Overall, there were a few spins and "off-road excursions", but nothing too out of the ordinary for an event such as this. The only damaged vehicle was a 3rd Gen. Integra GS-R sedan that suffered some front lower frame damage after spinning several times when 2 wheels left the course and he tried to correct the error. No one was injured, and after some late night quick fixes from myself and several instructors, he was able to make the 200 mile trek to Dallas the following day.

Ouch!

I rode with 2 separate instructors in their cars, one being an NSX, the other a turbocharged Miata. It's simply amazing how well prepared each of these cars is and how much more grip they are able to attain in comparison to my Integra. Also, the instructors know the track exceptionally well and manage to use every inch of available pavement as a result. It is a very humbling experience; if you ever think you're a top-notch driver, a ride with an instructor should quickly put you in your place.

Taking a lunch break from the all the fun.

During lunch time, non-participants can take their car for a parade lap around the 2.9 mile course.

Luckily, the rain came at the end of the weekend.
