Conclusions

For once we can finally wrap up an A-Spec/Factory Performance article without any caveats regarding the division's "all or nothing" approach to selling their parts. The fact that you can now separate the suspension bits from the bodywork is reason enough for celebration, and at a suggested price of $800, it's almost a no-brainer for the enthusiastic TSX driver. We've argued that it should have been that way all along, but hopefully this gesture will lead to other "suspension-only" options for future and existing A-Spec and Factory Performance kits.

Whether you choose to purchase the full kit is more a matter of your own personal tastes. If the body pieces appeal to you, then you will appreciate the quality of the pre-painted pieces and how well they fit on the car. We should also note that as of now, the 17"x7.5" EPS-R5 wheels are only available as part of the full kit. In any case, that's all pretty much a subjective call on your part, and we can't tell you whether you like it or not.

What we can tell you is that we appreciate the improvements that the stiffened A-Spec suspension bring to the table, and $800 (+installation) seems like a small price to pay for these enhancements. Just be prepared to pay The Tire Rack a visit and put some real tires on the car.

Coincidentally, we did just that, and we'll tell you all about it in our next Project TSX update. Further into the future, for our Project TSX we're planning the following enhancements: performance brake pads, a camber kit, camshafts, Hondata ECU, and possibly an exhaust manifold and cat-back system.

Acura A-Spec package for TSX
Report Date:September 7, 2004
Odometer reading:10050 miles
MSRP:Full Kit: $4330 (+ installation)
Suspension only: $800 (+ installation)

Pros
  • Suspension is available separately
  • Improved handling with minimal penalty in ride quality (perhaps more of a penalty in the rust belt)
  • Excellent OEM Quality, full factory warranty
  • Cons
  • Suspension could be a bit more aggressive
  • 17" wheels are a tad hefty
  • Stock tires are a limiting factor
  • The Verdict
  • At the very least, the TSX A-Spec suspension should be considered by every prospective TSX owner who's looking for a bit more driving enjoyment
  • Special Thanks:
