Video and Dyno Plots

Plot #1 - 2013 Accord V6 Touring

Notes: As you can see, there are two runs shown on this plot. We included the 2nd curve because it was our best and final pass. We forgot to turn the A/C compressor off during the run, however, so we believe that's why the power is down a little bit in the lower rpms (at which point, the compressor cycled off). Also interesting to note is that on that day we made 4 passes, and the power actually increased slightly with each subsequent pass. Actually we have observed this behavior with several other Hondas in the past. On this particular day we didn't have time to keep making further passes though, so the figures may have potentially climbed a little bit.

Plot #2 - 2013 Accord V6 Touring vs 2008 Accord V6 EX-L

Notes: On this plot you can very plainly see the benefits of the addition of VTEC to the J35's cylinder head. The 2013 Accord's J35 V6 puts down considerably more power and torque than the 2008 Accord's V6. Interestingly, while the power never changed on paper, later models of the 8th Generation Accord V6 felt considerably more sprightly than the earlier 8th generation V6 sedans that we drove. On paper, the new Accord is rated at 278hp vs the 2008's 271hp, a net change of only 7hp. As you can see in this dyno chart, the actual difference in horsepower seen by the road is considerably greater.

Plot #3 - 2013 Accord V6 Touring vs 2010 TSX V6

Notes: We included this plot because the TSX V6 engine is very similar to the 2013 Accord's V6, but of course the TSX V6 doesn't have the VCM cylinder-cut technology. As you can see, the Accord's new V6 performed slightly better on the dyno, but keep in mind that the TSX's V6 is coupled to the older 5-speed automatic transmission (with potentially more drag and friction than the new 6AT), and it also wears larger and heavier 18" wheels.
