Apologies for the sudden and unexpected outage over the weekend. I've been working all morning with tech support at our colocation facility and just now managed to get things back in order. It's not clear what exactly happened but it appears that something became corrupted in the filesystem of one of our machines. Hopefully this was an isolated incident.
As far as news goes, on Friday I attended the dedication ceremony for Honda's new transmission plant in Tallapoosa, GA. When I got the invite to this event I couldn't believe that it was already built, fully staffed, and operational. In fact, it's been active since May 1st. You may recall that the groundbreaking ceremony took place in May of 2005. These guys move FAST! mime=asc" >Press Release
In other news, Realtime debuted their S2000 drift car at the Drift Atlanta event this weekend. They invited me to come out and check out their car this weekend but unfortunately I was only able to make it from around 3 to 5:30 on Saturday afternoon. By that point, Pierre had made the cut on Friday and appeared to be in the final 16, but they seemed to be struggling with some mechanical issues on the car. I shot some photos and video which I will share later. The turnout was decent but I'm not convinced drifting can make it as a standalone attraction in the long run. It's fun to watch in short bursts but I think it may make more sense as a sideshow of a real circuit race. There's lots of sponsorship and excitement about it, but the competitive formula may need to be tweaked so it's more like a race than a high school burnout beauty contest.
