JAS Motorsport’s brand new Honda Accord 2.0i in the FIA Super 2000 technical specifications, completed its first test today, at the Italian racetrack of Adria.
“It was only a shake down. Just a few laps before sending back the car to our workshop, where we will finish working on the details and the livery before sending it to Magny-Cours for racing in the ETCC meeting,” the team’s technical director Stefano Fini explained.
JAS regular ETCC driver, Alessandro Balzan, was at the wheel. “Alessandro was very pleased. The few laps he completed today were enough to see that the Accord
at the very beginning of its development is already as good as the Civic Type-R we have used so far,” said Fini.
The Honda Accord 2.0i completed this first test in Adria without any technical problems, which was a very good omen in view of its
first appearance in the fifth and sixth rounds of the FIA European Touring Car Championship,
this weekend on the French circuit of Nevers Magny-Cours.
Some thoughts:
Well, I don't think we could expect any wins for Honda in the EuroSTC. Because while JAS will be running a private Accord with a modest driver in the series, there are really good cars with full factory support and top level drivers, like the ones from BMW, Alfa Romeo, and Seat.
Of course, if they manage to do well, maybe Honda would think again about it, and if Honda enters the competition as they did with the last generation Accord, maybe they can dominate the series as before.
The only difference is that in Europe Honda had a Type R version of the last Accord, while the current one isn't really selling as a sports model. And therefore they have until now prefeared to race CTRs instead.
