NorCalSales - according to the kicking tires blog (http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2011/10/movers-and-losers-september-2011.html - sorry, in chrome I can't make a link) the 2012 Odyssey, Pilot, Accord Sedan and Fit are not staying on lots for very long...is this something you've noticed?

Cool stuff about the Honda Plant in Indiana (my home state). Are they just making Civic's there?

Yes, at this point the Indiana plant makes exclusively Civics. That doesn't mean you are going to have 100k extra Civics in the market though, since in East Liberty plant Civic shares production with the CR-V.

Some have speculated before about the reasons for the 1-2 months CR-V delay. Personally, I think it's impossible for any automaker to change anything on a new model in that time lapse. Whatever the delay had to be related to manufacturing, supply, or market situation. Given all the hardships experienced by Honda facilities this year, I don't think that's crazily unlikely. A quick random example:
- unable to start second shift at Indiana before 10/24, Honda couldn't ensure having as many new CR-Vs as they wanted at launch without eroding even more on suffering Civic prod.
- that situation got even worse considering recent JPY uptake, which means Honda doesn't want to make any CR-V in Japan, and therefore needs to boost East-Liberty CR-V share as much as possible (that is when Indiana Civic capacity x2 comes into play);
- with the LA Show just around the corner, some of the loses made by delayed market intro could be offset by the additional buzz generated by an "AutoShow global debut" (though the big deal is obviously increased NA-prod share vs. gold-like JPY).

Again, that was just an "example" of what could have happened, not saying it is what happened.

And just when we thought this was "over" (or getting close to it).

Impact of Thailand Flooding on Honda's Automobile Operations in North America

effective November 2, Honda will take the following actions:
•Honda will temporarily adjust automobile production at all six Honda auto plants in the U.S. and Canada. Currently, it is anticipated that this situation will require adjustments for the next several weeks.
•Auto production will be at approximately 50% of the original plan through Nov. 10. Subsequent adjustments will be announced as they are determined based on the parts supply situation.
•All Saturday overtime work will be canceled through November.
•A non-production day is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 11.
•The December on-sale date of the all-new 2012 Honda CR-V could potentially be delayed by several weeks. The on-sale date will be announced in the near future.

In 2010, 87 percent of the Honda and Acura automobiles sold in the United States were produced in North America. While the vast majority of parts and materials used to produce these products are purchased from suppliers in North America, a few critical electronic parts are sourced from Thailand and other regions of the world. Honda is working closely with its suppliers in Thailand and throughout its global network to reestablish the flow of parts for the products made in North America.

From Bloomberg-BusinessWeek:
... [T]wo Honda plants in the Rojana Industrial Park have been submerged since Oct. 6, Jessada Thongpak, an analyst at IHS Global Automotive, said in a report yesterday. “It may take until late 2012 to rebuild both plants,”

Those are the two main auto plants of Honda in Thailand, which feeds other plants in S.E.Asia like the Philippines.

The imnpact of the Thai flood on Honda is more severe than any other automakers, and will probably be no less than the Japanese quake twin disaster if it takes until late 2012 to rebuild.

I don't know when the water will recede or how long it'll take to restore the production facilities but it's definitely a long road ahead. And AFAIK, no other automakers' plant is submerged!

You can tell that October marked the definite turning point in production, with all regions but Asia (already affected by Thai situation) posting sharp increases in production.

Catch up has started, but then again, you'll see it going down when November figures get published due to spreading of Thai flooding impact (myself I'm waiting for a piece for my CR-Z ...). Fortunately it seems the situation was normalized in early December in most places outside ASEAN (including NA Dec1 and JP Dec5).

PS: Saw the CR-V on my local dealer the other day and... looks rather nice.

We moved 107 last month, holding onto that top 300 mark at 288. On hand + in tansit just doesn't seem to ever get any bigger and for some reason Pilots are in short supply at a time of the year they sell like hotcakes. Maybe with both 11 and 12 CRVs being made in Alabama the Pilot productions was lowered. Who knows really but really poor timing yet again.

Right now I have 7 and 5-6 more before the end of the month.

Our CRVs are sitting at port in Richmond like cordwood. We are getting 9 on the first drop. One car we move a crapload of here in semi-rural Sonoma County is CRV's, it looks like we will have a pretty nice supply of them even with some (15%) production dates kicking back a dozen days or so. Looks like we have 34 on top of the 9 at port now due to be produced this month.

Based on early reports, it sounds like the CRV is a pretty nice little SUV. It also sounds like they will keep the prices competitive.

I see nothing wrong with a dealer being allowed to make a fair profit (beyond hold back), especially if the car is a good value and in demand.
