91 Civic Wagon RT4WD, 6-speed manual . . . .
the previous owners butchered the radio harness in the dash board. i have a new harness (aftermarket) that will fit into the back of the Honda radio I have, but I have no idea which wires in the dash are what.
i have the power, mem, and ground but the speaker leads are cryptic. i thought i could just compare to what was behind the speakers but both front doors have blue/green and gray/black leads! in the dash, there are red/yellows, brown/grays, and a few others but nothing that matches what comes out behind the radio!?
any input would be appreciated!
i need:
front left + & -
front right + & -
dimmer/illumination
i think the pwr, mem and ground are OK. even though i can't hear sound, the display comes on and the presets stay even when i take the key out of the ignition.
thanks!

honda radio is making a "shrieking" noise from the speakers no matter what the volume or how the balance is set. this happened after some of the wires in the harness touched each other.
is the radio fried? is there any way to "reset" it or is it toast?
how it happened . . . .
so after i post the first thread, i get online and i find a website (carstereo.com) that has a honda section and had the color codes i needed. i hooked up the speaker leads and everything worked fine! i was anxious to see what the OEM radio looked like sitting in the dash so i pushed it in without tying up the wire connections. ZZZaaAAaaPPp i fried the radio. the bare connections must have crossed. #$%@^*!
i plugged in an older Honda radio that i yanked fom my sister's Civic and it works. (we took it out of her car because the display cracked) at least i know i put the factory harness back in correctly. i'm jsut going to use my sister's old, smacked up unit for now. i only use the wagon for hauling so it's no big deal. still kicking myself though . . .
any advice about whether the radio can be repaired, reset, or should be trashed??
thanks . . . .

I don't know about repair but at the rate the honda/acura stereos are selling on Ebay, I'd say save some time and energy and pick one up for cheap. Just make sure the Security Code comes with it.
Or pick up an inexpensive aftermarket unit.

actually, that's where i got the stereo - eBay. picked it up for $15 with shipping. :) definitely the way to go.
i just had to post to warn others to not be as stupid. i still don't believe i jammed the radio in there "just to see how it looks" while some of the wires still exposed.
