Looking for some theories.....

Still bitter about this one but the more I think about it the more it doesn't add up. Small cars and wagons do much better up here than in the US so why did Honda Canada put the kibosh on this? The press release did seem to hint that it's a temporary thing so it may yet happen but I'm looking for theories as to why the happened.

To wait and see how the car does, In a country that seems to ignore wagons?

Could the above parity CDN dollar be a factor?

I can see the eating into Crosstour sales but that will happen in the US as well.

Thoughts everyone.......

Maybe waiting for the new Accord to come out, which will translate into a new TSX wagon too. (with AWD?) To start a new model at the end of its cycle can be counterproductive. A lot of bureaucracy involved with a new model, then the same over again 1-2 years later.

They only expected to sell 4000 in the US. That would make for about 500 to 600 units sold in Canada (assuming Canadians buy small wagons at a higher rate than Americans). It's pretty hard to justify. Other than the ZDX and RL, it is Honda's poorest selling vehicle. It has failed to meet expectations in the US. My guess is that Acura regrets bringing it here. (I know, thousands of TOV fans would have flocked to Acura dealers, throwing money at salesmen, IF Acura had been smart enough to offer a 6MT version. Right?)

Makes sense but wouldn't this same logic apply to having released it in the US.

Is there an easy way to check current Acura sales figures as I thought the wagon was doing OK. Just wondering how you come to failed to meet expectations.

Your last point is so true. Makes me laugh remembering back to posts when the car was coming out. Give it SH-AWD, give it a turbo, give it the V6, give it a manual. Too funny.

Why did the TSX Wagon not come to Canada?

Maybe because there will be smaller wagon/hatchback coming (wishful thinking).... It may be next-gen Stream based on 9th gen Civic, or Euro Civic hatch, or even Fit Shuttle (will be launched tomorrow in Japan). Hatchback & small wagons sell pretty good in Canada. Manufacture them in Alliston Ontario would be a benefit to keep costs low.

Honda Canada tend to follow AHM on their products for years (it's still *technically* under AHM), so no wonder it follows the U.S. market. I emailed several times to Honda Canada to bring wagons or hatchbacks & the response has always "we don't have plan to bring.... bla bla". But who knows?

According to Honda's released sales figures, they only sold 194 of them in May, and 1535 of them so far this year. Compare that to 1167/8646 of the much more expensive and (IMHO) hideous Crosstour. They even managed to sell 128 ZDXs in May, and sightings of those are a reportable event!

We just returned from a Baltic Sea cruise, and while my wife went to see the culture, I went to see the traveling car show in every country. I was not disappointed. It was great to see a number of Accord Tourers over there, though I must say the TSX grille works better. Great looking car either way. I was unable to snap pictures of some nifty Civic hatches - really cool cars.

I also would say in general that if a car didn't have a blue/white propeller, a tri-star or 4 circles on the trunk lid, chances are it was a 2-box hatch or wagon. Hatches and wagons just make so much sense over here. Then we get home and see huge Tahoes and Expeditions lumbering down the road with one occupant. Sigh...

The ultimate car for me: A perfectly-restored cafe-au-lait Trabant in N. Germany, formerly GDR territory. The main question I asked myself was: Why??? Isn't that just like restoring a 1953 Dodge sedan or 1962 Studebaker Lark?

My wife had to get me to calm down many times when I kept exclaiming "Ooo! Ooo!" and madly pointing at some vehicle or other. The Europeans have their car situation figured out with their hatches and wagons, but we're glad to get back to the USA, Tahoes and Expeditions aside.

The TSX Wagon is manufactured in Japan, while the Crosstour is built in the U.S.

Dealers didn't want it. Before the launch Canadian dealers got together and realized that the numbers would be too low to justify adding it to their product line up. Guess there may have been poor feedback from customers.

That's really disappointing. This was the one Acura/Honda I was looking forward to. I know many of my friends were disappointed too. For a sub $40,000 import wagon that's fun to drive, we'd have to turn to a mediocre Subaru product, or even worse, a CUV....

They just need to add SH-AWD and it would be a decent seller. Honestly, an AWD wagon makes so much sense here in Canada.

Living in Canada, I like SH-AWD, but I'd be interested in this FWD wagon if it just had a manual transmission option.

The hypothesis regarding Honda/Acura Canada not wanting this car because it is low-volume is suspect. After all, how many ZDXs (or RLs) are being sold in Canada each month? 12 maybe? The TSX Wagon would do better, and it is pretty much the same car as the TSX sedan, so introducing it would be much less costly than the ZDX.

The fact that they bring over the ZDX but not the TSX wagon makes me think that Honda managers in Canada should have their heads examined. But then I think most of Honda managers (in Japan and NA) should do the same.

Yeah, the ZDX is hard to fathom. However, the ZDX was concocted by Acura to be a halo car (showroom magnet), so its low sales expectations would not have mattered. The TSX wagon has to add to the profit column, or it won't be in the lineup.

Bring Over? The ZDX is made in Ontario alongside the MDX. I'd imagine there are some geo-politics involved in this decision to foster home-grown product vs. importing Japan made.
