I know it would have been more expensive, but what this car really needs is a rethink of the headlights and taillights. As it is, they all look too squinty. The headlights should be at least as tall as the outside edge of the grill on the inside and not shrink down so much as to leave that acre of blank bumper below it. These flat sections below the smallish lights is what make this design look odd. They should quit trying to make the lights a styling detail, and work more on making them be a cohesive element in the total design.

My exact thoughts, have mentioned this on other threads. However the new crease in both bumpers to break up that acre of flatness below the lights has helped tremendously.

The crease on the front bumper is the best part of the redesign (well along with the shortening of the overhangs) but that crease really helps break up the front slab look of the front bumper.

Also the redesign of the foglight enclosures was very well done. The curved piece of chrome trim curves up and allows your eyes to flow right through the headlights and up the hood line.

I think the lights work actually - on the front they flow right along the shoulder line that goes down the whole car, I think if they were any bigger it would take away from the sportiness of the vehicle. And putting the red chrome on the tailights helps tremendously - again if they were bigger I think they would have too much visual weight - the problems with the rear end had nothing to do with the size/shape of the tailights I don't think.

Love the new design.
