The base model looks great here, without the spoiler. I thought the previous TL SH-AWD was always sexy, but the base was a dud. Now its new wheels along with the exterior updates really made an improvement.

the base model is the one that benefited the most from the updates. It looks considerably better. I think it's because the overwrought details on the '09-'11 models clashed mightily with the bargain basement wheel-tire combo on that version.

So for the rear, the only difference between base and SHAWD is the SHAWD symbol?

btw thanks jeff & TOV, great job covering this!

The only problem now is that, since i already bought a 2010, it's too large of a loss this early on for me to sell/trade and re-buy a TL. I'll most likely need to wait for the next gen (TL or RDX or some hatch/coupe) to minimize the loss.

They do appear to 'fit' the car better from the angle shown in the video.
I'm curious to see how the new 5 spokes (TL w/ Advance) look. I haven't seen any pics of these wheels apart from the one in Jeff's gallery. Jeff if you have more pics of the TL it would be great to see some showing the profile of the TL wearing the new 5 spokes.

I'm assuming the '09-'11 SHAWD 5 spokes are carried over like the 19"s.

Great job on the updates (especially to the front end) on the '12 TL, Acura.

you should be able to swap the bumpers from a '12 model. no sheetmetal has changed.

k.

Though one of the main things i want, ventilated seats, appears to be difficult to change. The seats may not be difficult, but the button and electronics will be difficult.

I think i'll just wait for the next gen, my car is only 10 months old :X

The tail of the base model is very clean... I like it better than the Type S... IMHO the spoiler looks tacked on and breaks up the nice line.

I would dare say that the base model is beginning to look... ahem! FLUID and ELEGANT? The Type S still looks MECHANICAL but no longer over the top, it just looks harder.

The front is MUCH cleaner. It would have been best if the hood could have been extended to match the top of the headlights and meet the grill, but I guess that would have required new bodywork. I suppose the new metal "inset" that covers the gap between the front lip of the hood and the top of the grill will be invisible as such in the darker colors.. I don't know how well the additional cut line will look in a white car.

Fender blisters could have been toned down. If they had done this then the car would be truly elegant.. but at least, they have done a marvelous job of cleaning up the design.

Hmm.. I'd like to get one of these... since we've had every generation since the Vigor. But, the kids are in college and we just ordered the CRV. Kind of sad, because this has become a nice car that I would like to drive.

I never had an issue with the interior or handling. In fact, I'd like a base car with Navi. Don't need much more... I prefer the 17 inch rims because the handling is sufficiently good for a sedan and the ride will be easier because of the higher sidewalls. Those 19" and 20" tires look good in the showroom but are murder on the ride and on the potholes.

hmm, i'll have to look and see if i got any profile shots with the 5 spoke wheels. For now i found closeups of both the 5-spokes and the 7-spokes and a few profile shots of the base model. The "advanced" model always seemed to be obstructed when i was trying to pop off shots of it. EDIT: Just found one that Chad got.

So is the five spoke the standard wheel for the SH-AWD? Or the FWD Advance trim?

I thought Acura was going to bring out a trim (Advanced?) for the FWD that looked semi sporty?

3 wheels - 17" 7-spoke, 18" 5-spoke, and the (carryover) 19s.

17" is on base
18" is on FWD Advance and standard SH-AWD
19" is on SH-AWD Advance.

I think I got that right.

Man - Those 5 spokes look sweet. In a way reminds me of the GS350 profile with those wheels.

mannnn the 5 spokes look wonderful!!!

I would so take this base tl vs the a4 or 3er now. haha Im so happy!!!

Love the TL once again!!!

I agree with most the TL SHAWD spoiler sucks. Makes it to sharp and cuts up the lines. Looks amazing without the spoiler!!!

Great job whoever re-designed the back, its stunning!

How many times he said "We didn't change the sheet metal"............I am very happy with the changes, I liked the old one except for the grill, but I can see how just attention to detail can make HUGE changes in the over all look...........

Another +1 for NO lip spoiler on the trunk lid.

It has always looked awful. Looks like a cheap aftermarket add-on.

From the press release, interpreted it this way:

TL (FWD) 17"
TL Tech (FWD) 17" (not sure if the Tech 18" will continue)
TL Advance (FWD) 18"

TL AWD 18"
TL Tech AWD 18"
TL Advance AWD 19"

I like the new 17" 7 spoke wheels better than the old ones, but the 17" wheels are still too small for a car of this size. I just wished that they would have made 18" wheels standard even for the base TL.

As for the 18" 5 spoke wheels, they are OK but I personally prefer the 2009-2011 TL SH-AWD's standard 18" gun metal wheels. To me, those wheels look much sportier than these new 18".

Still love those 19" wheels! They are gorgeous.
