My post back 3 or 4 months ago..........I believe I said we would know something before June of this year.................Again, no promises, but I think all of you will be happier then you are today unless something in the economy happens that is so devastating to the auto industry Honda just says fuck it!.........
I have said in the past, the new RL will start the new trend for Acura leading into this car they are talking about. Acura will be making some model changes and they will be adding a few more things, time will tell................but right now I can't.

If this is the case, I will now DEFINITELY wait until the entire new/next generation of acuras, starting with the RL, come out before I even consider another one. I made a mistake by buying a car too soon (a large financial hit too early in my life), and not only was it not exactly what I wanted, but Its not even the best (not even close) of what acura can make.
I'll sit this out until the next (or next next?) gen.

Honda AFVM, when will the new RL debut? The speculation has been all over the map, from this fall to the fall of 2012.

I remember the post.
I'm however afraid of the economy bit making this another start/stop device and Honda saying whatever is Japanese for FFS!

We 'know' that the Sub-TSX is going to be the next all new car. Probably coming about 11-13 months from now. The question is which car is next. By rights it should be the RL, but the RDX and MDX should also be on schedule for 2012 introductions. Frankly, I don't see them releasing 4 all new models in calender year 2012.

The Sub-Tsx car is another one that been all over the map as to when it will be introduced. The last I read was the the Sub-TSX car would be released this year in the fall, along with the RDX. That leaves MDX and RL(?) for 2012...........one would guess.

I have heard from a few insiders about the RL that was cancelled. It sounds like it was a vehicle that was REALLY, FINALLY set to put Acura back on the map. I didn't get too many details but it was confirmed to be FR, with an impressive engine. The franken-TSX mule supposedly drove quite nicely, too. And that car was going to go on sale THIS year.
Acura badly needs that car RIGHT NOW. Back then I thought it was really shortsighted and a poor decision to stop that program, and I still think it was poor decision that will just extend the pain. The market is steadily recovering and something like that would really have provided a great pop for the Acura brand THIS YEAR. Let's hope this next RL is really something special. I know the same team that developed the FR one is working on this one, but this new one was basically a cold reboot and based on everything else we've been seeing coming out of R&D, I'm guessing heavy shackles were on the team and we're going to end up with another iteration of the common plank.

About 3 months ago, I was speaking with my friends in Torrance and the word then was 'if really lucky' it could debut in CY2011 in the fall. We just had a trainer here last month, and he said early CY2012. That is now the latest info that I know so I'm going with Feb-Mar for Sub-TSX. As usual, they are not keen to talk about future product beyond the next one out.

My understanding is 12 to 15 months from now......concept is rumored to be unveiled at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. From there everything will change and some things we will not see a return. You could say the Sub TSX will be the 1st car, but for Pride and Glory the RL will be the Beginning.........Again, don't be surprised if you see the Legend name back as a package as in "Tech" package......

Most likely going to see what they did with the RL this year. Updates and roll out later. I am guessing every 6 months.

My Guess the Sub TSX will be the L.A. Show.........Concept release Spring 2012, RL concept Detroit Show Release Fall 2012, the rest NY show and L.A. show of the nest and the same Spring and Fall release........Keep the people flowing in the Show room every 6 months for 2 years with new product...............Speculation tho.........

I think things are being re-thought..........Acura/Honda is predicting 2012 to be the beginning of the UP swing in the economy. Fuel will be higher, sales of Honda will be up and new fuel saving cars will bring Honda into the Front Page with the FIT EV, PHEV Accord..........

This would be similar to how it was in 2003. TSX in the Spring, TL in the Fall, RL right after that. Just with different names in the slots. I concur, new product every 6 months once they begin flowing.

Acura dealers must be livid with Acura's failure to innovate.
The only thing keeping them alive must be rebates and incentives

Aside for Lexus, Acura has the least amount of incentives than any other Luxury brand. With Lexus getting hammered and desperate with being the only luxury brand to have sales drop consistently as of late, I wouldn't be surprised if Acura even passed Lexus in that regard.

Doubtful, dealers are more mature than the average TOV poster. Nobody's ecstatic with the situation, but they aren't exactly selling their franchises either.

When they officially canceled NSX and FR RL I was shocked to hear that the reason was the "economy".
It's almost equivalent to selling your stock portfolio in 2009. Smart investors not only did not sell anything, but instead bought more because economy always recovers.
Honda missed a great opportunity... I doubt they will ever be so close to production FR sedan or even NSX. I don't believe anything from Honda until I see it at the dealership. Too many Honda promises have been broken.

Dealers were asked to upgrade their dealerships because the next RL/NSX were going to be ultra-luxury, etc.
Maybe RL wasn't a "promise" but the platform/engine were obviously implemented (I realize that not polished) and being tested. That's the sad part - it was already taking shape and they just threw it away.

I think the diesel might qualify as a failed promise, but I can't remember exactly how the original talk was worded.

Dealers were asked to upgrade in preparation for more high-end products, not ultra-luxury (Bentley, Rolls Royce, Maybach). A product being tested vs confirmed are very different. A test of something is not a confirmation of delivery. So far, those products high-end products should still be on the way, though delayed (ZDX is the first product/experiment). If dealers were told to upgrade because they are getting RWD V8 RL's, I think we would have heard that on here.

There's nothing more high-end about ZDX than RL, unless you consider leather dash a separating feature.
You can try to twist words/phrases I used against me, but Honda was definitely talking about FR V8 RL. They wouldn't mention this unless they wanted to get the public interested/excited. Maybe they didn't "promise" it or "confirmed" it, but they were talking about it openly.
And so far there is no indication that next RL will be anymore high-end than the current one. In fact, Acura stated that they aren't after luxury but rather some "smart luxury".

I believe A-VTEC was promised a while ago too, but for whatever reason it never materialized.
Sure the FR RL was not 'promised', but I remember the term 'Tier 1' thrown around a bit and that franken-mule TSX had many very excited, and of course we all know the ZDX is not really Tier 1.
In other news, Car & Driver did a new SUV test and the MDX came in behind the BMX X5 and the Audi Q7 was the top pick. Acura can't rely on the good but no longer class leading MDX for much longer...
I agree with some of the comments here, Acura missed an opportunity to compete with BMW, Mercedes, and Audi head to head NOW...whatever happens in the future (if anything happens at all) with rear wheel drive, sports cars, 'Tier 1' cars - it could be too late.
