I added a few more vehicles that I usually do not to give a better picture of the auto landscape. I am not that familiar w/ all of them so I stuck them in the place I thought most logical ... @ that moment.

Perhaps? The Rabbit/Golf moved to the Civic section.
The Genesis numbers include both coupe and sedan.

What's going on with the A4? It's been lower than the TL for a few months now. It was much stronger before.

We drove a Cruze at the State Fair of Texas, around that under-15-mph pylon-limited course, and I must say I was impressed with the package. Kind of a mini-Malibu only much better. Seat height higher than Civic's is good for my bad hip. Obviously I couldn't tell much about the driving dynamics, but there's hope for the car. If they brought over the wagon / hatch from Europe, I'd add it to my watch list for a second car. I expect the Cruze will do well, even against the upcoming Focus.

Maybe the buyers willing to pay a steep premium for attractive vehicles with horrible reliability and resale are all stocked up for now.
Seriously, I thought Hyundai was selling way more cars then they are the way thier fans are carrying on. Granted, they have some nice new offerings but kind of like the genesis...not really coming through.

It seems to me that GM's upper two brands Caddy and Buick are now doing quite well with their recent offerings. This is good news for the taxpayers.

Thank you.
As soon as Honda's sales appear on TOV, I start scanning for your post. Look forward to it each month. Adds a lot of meaning and context to Honda's sales figures.
Much appreciated. Thank you.

Thank you very much TSX69. I love this post and can't wait to see it every month.
I also love that the Fit still outsold the Fiesta. Also does anybody know why the Aveo went crazy this month? Up 313.8%...?
Also - Chevrolet sells 12K Malibu's and 12K Impala's a month. That seems vaguely insane to me. Fleet sales for the Impala? I'm not necessarily trying to knock on the Impala, it just seems...I don't know...pretty boring and old.
And how does the Sebring outsell ANY car? Over 2000 of these sold? C'mon people.

Toyota’s Lexus Tops U.S. Luxury Sales for First Month Since May
Lexus, the top-selling U.S. luxury brand since 2000, is being challenged this year as Toyota copes with record recalls and as Mercedes and BMW benefit from new models. Lexus more than doubled average incentive spending in October to $2,152 a vehicle from $923 a year earlier, according to TrueCar.com, an auto pricing website.

For one thing there are too many cars bunched right in at that 17K unit range. With 17,121, the Civic just missed the top ten. The Civic, Ram, Fusion and Sonata are all within 384 unites of each other. But rest assured, since they are all so compacted in that range, I'm sure the Civic will bounce back into the top ten next month (or January).
More importantly, you have to remember that as good as the current Civic might be, it is stretching into its 6th year of the current generation. Had it been on schedule for its MMC, we would have had a new Civic by now. And as we've seen with the new Odyssey, I'm sure Civic sales would have surged as well.

It is still there, if you take the full size pick-ups out from the comparison.
TOP TEN CARS/SUV
1. Camry 25,014
2. Accord 24,334
3. Altima 18,978
4. Corolla 18,636
5. CR-V 18.040
6. Sonata 17,505
7. Fusion 17,362
8. CIVIC 17,121
9. Rav4 14,694
10. Escape 14,578
This makes 3 Honda, 3 Toyota, 2 Ford, 1 Nissan, 1 Hyundai.
Now, remove the fleet sales from the figures and I think we have a different result altogether. Does anyone know the numbers?
Appreciate your list every time, however i do agree that VW Golf should be in the Civic column.

I only have 2009 results for sales that show once fleet sales are removed, Honda moves to #1 in pretty much all categories it competes in (Accord, Civic, Fit, Pilot, Odyssey, CR-V ...)
The Jetta & the Golf/Rabbit are in similar price ranges ... so I can see the Golf/Rabbit in the Civic category ... bc that little hatchback looks like it competes w/ the Fit (& I like to keep one brand make per category) ... but I again, I do see how it competes w/ the Civic so I may move it there next month. Thanks

_That 2009 list was really neat. I always thought that Honda barely did any rental/fleet sales but it is nice to see it in black and white. It is interesting that none of the major magazines talk about this stuff - isn't this (retail sales) the best way to see which cars are the most desirable to the public?

Very interesting - though puzzling entries for the Insight. Implies there is a non-hybrid version.

It's quite interesting if you do align ALL the models to their correct segments; they all suddenly do a LOT better. Particularly the TSX (D) TL (E1) and RL (E2).
I appreciate though that Acura itself doesn't seem to know which segment its cars compete in, which confuses matters.

New revised sales results for 2009:
TOP 5 MOST SOLD CARS/SUV to RETAIL customers (excludes full size pick-ups and fleet sales).
#1 : HONDA ACCORD 272.462
#2 : Toyota Camry 262.381
#3 : HONDA CIVIC 235.624
#4 : Toyota Corolla 215.943
#5 : HONDA CR-V 179.630
Seems like Honda tech sells a lot better among common people than the latest bragging tech that is embraced by the Honda bashers. Sure, Honda is lagging behind, they are lost and whatever else is wrong with them according to the critics, however among retailers Honda is #1, even without the heavy discounts and incentives of the competition. As a side effect is the higher resale value of Honda compared to competition.
