According to the link below the MDX was recently evaluated by Consumer Reports who also may have evaluated the GX460 around the same time.

Some on this forum believe the MDX to be the best overall Acura product to date.
Does MDX+next gen hybrid technology= Acura's visions of "Smart Luxury"?

I certainly agree the MDX is the best acura yet. Except for the NSX, of course.

No exceptions here, MDX is an ACURA. NSX was a Honda, only Acura in USA.

No doubt the MDX has been a sucess for Acura from it's 2001 intro. And yes one can be purchased for thousands less than one of those pricier German brands. It's a sold choice- but....

A few things that bother me is the MMC styling is ugly IMHO. It is too American looking for me and borders on that gaudy Cadillac look. The interior is still several notches below your typical Audi and I would like to see some other powertrain choices besides another version of the J series.

On the contrary, though no debutant from the front, the new styling is better than the "shield". The previous front made the MDX have an unsightly "beak". The issue in the new one is that the front is too "busy". I'd love to swap our 2008 for a new one! I would particularly like the auto cruise, one option I really enjoy on the RL. It's excellent for a stress free highway cruise. The 6 speed, with its noticeably improved acceleration and economy are also great. Our MDX barely averages 20 on the highway. We'll see how the year goes, my RL is paid for......... :)

Acura MDX Tops CR's 3 Row Luxury SUV List
The freshened Acura MDX posted an “Excellent” overall score topping Consumer Reports tests’ of four luxury SUVs for the June 2010 issue.

The Acura MDX earned an overall road-test score of 85, outperforming the Land Rover LR4 which earned a “Very Good” 73, the new Lincoln MKT, which earned a “Very Good” 72, and the Audi Q7 which earned a “Very Good” 68.

With an improved powertrain that yields better acceleration and fuel economy, the MDX is now CR’s top-rated three-row luxury SUV.

“The MDX is a well-rounded vehicle that outscores competitors that cost much more,” said David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports’ Auto Test Center in East Haddam, Connecticut.

Wow, the MDX being on top doesn't surprise me; it's seeing the Land Rover LR4 in second that is surprising, but then again I guess this is not a reliability ranking, haha.

i beg to differ, i think that the new MMC makes it look even better, i've seen the mmc MDX and RDX on the road and they defiantly catch your eye...in a good way that is. Although the j-series is adequate i would also like to see some more choices.

I am in complete disagreement with you. I think the MDX is cleanly designed outside and inside, even with its somewhat busy center stack, the interior is top notch in materials and fit. On the other hand, the Audi big ute's styling is completely over the top to my eyes, with multiple lines and surfaces crisscrossing its body and the LED's in the headlights make the SUV look like Tammy Faye Baker in drag (the redundancy is intended), yuck! Unlike most people, I have never been a big fan of Audi's interiors whatsoever, they all look like an updated dashboard taken from a Chevy. I also don't swoon over the Audi's interior materials either; they feel and look no more special than what I would find in Acura's.

I think it's safe to say your opinions are colored by bias. That's fine, though.

I do agree that the MDX is a nice looking CUV, but I also think the Q7 is sharp looking as well. On the interior and build detail front, I think the Q7 has a distinct edge over the MDX, though both are indeed very nice. The Q7's optional 4.2 certainly delivers a lot more visceral, more premium feel than the MDX's J37. I haven't tried the 3.6L Q7 so I can't comment on that.

I guess I'm particularly harsh on Audi/VW products as a reaction to so many on these boards that praise those products to no end. But I won't lie, I am pretty biased when it comes to all things Honda, mainly due to years of good owner experience.

I'm Honda biased as well but have always appreciated Audi's designs (since the Audi 5000 of the 80's).
I would favor the exterior design of the MDX over the Q7. I won't go so far as to compare to Tammy Faye Baker. It's just a little off in its proportions. The Q5 (not a competitor to this class) has much better proportions and IMHO is stunning. I feel the Q5 is a more stylish alternative to the ZDX and CrossTour.

By the way, anyone see a Lincoln MKT yet? Wow, thanks Lincoln for making the CrossTour, TL and RL look really good. That thing is a train wreck.
