I am a newbie to this board and a novice to auto parts. I am looking to lower the wifey's stock ls for about 1" - 1.5". May I know how much I am looking for. Do I need a new set of coilovers and shocks? I don't need the high performance quality but just something that could improve the ride. Heard about the KYB gas shock is not a bad choice over oem. Any recommendation?
Currently, I have stock 14" wheels but might upgrade to 15" or maybe 16" wheels. So, if I lower my suspension now then will it cause any problems when I change wheels later?
Thanks in advance.

If you're looking to improve ride quality as you're indicating, lowering will make it worse not to mention other issues. Advantages would be better handling, better stopping, nicer looks. Bear in mind same thing applies for the wheel/tyres. going lower profile will result in poor ride. Wider tyres better handling/grip and braking. Just some points to consider.

Comparing apples with apples, gila is right. That said, lowering my integra 1.5 inches with koni yellows and neuspeed springs improved both ride *and* handling when compared to my used (80,000 mi) stock strut/spring set-up. So "improvement" in ride depends on where you're starting, as well

Hi, 96tegls. May I know how much did you pay for the job?
My car is 96 LS and has about 75k on it. So, I am pretty much in the same situation as yours which made me believed that new suspension would give me better ride and of course improvement in handling.
My question is how low should I go? I have 195/60/14 tires.

Calvinada991, the koni yellows cost roughly $550 through mail order. The Neuspeed springs cost $200. Paying somebody locally should (and did) cost $200-250 where I live. I'm very satisfied with performance and consistency of the result, although the Neuspeed progressive springs do make a clunking sound over road ripples and potholes (the narrower winds clap together). I heard that H & R may make a similar sized spring but I do not know how it performs on the integra.
I opted to lower the car only 1.5" because I need worry about potholes and steep driveways where I live. I also use my car as a daily driver so I care about retaining some comfort to the ride. With this mild drop, I also haven't had to worry about camber problems that occur with more aggressive drops. The car doesn't look "slammed" but then again, acheiving a particular look hasn't been my primary goal.
...Good luck!

You can lower it 1 to 1.5 and still retain ride quality just as long as you buy quality shocks and coilovers. You get what you pay for.
As for a suspension setup, get coilovers that use stiffer springs and shocks that are adjustable so you can adjust ride height and as well as ride quality. 1 to 1.5 shouldn't cause any problems up to 17" wheels, but you will want to get a camber kit so your wheels look like this [-----], and not like this /----- , especially if it's just going to be a daily driven car.
