They really need an LCD or at least dot matrix. Segmented displays just dont display text very well..

yeah, I've been saying that in my impressions a while. In fact, while I was driving the MDX and TSX I made a mental note to myself to bring it up again. I guess I forgot (oops). The fine pitch dot matrix (or better yet, LCD) displays look much nicer and more appropriate in this segment.

Speaking as an engineer, I would have to agree with their choice.

A good looking dot matrix display in that size is hard (impossible?) to come by. I've seen smaller applications in other cars and it comes of looking really cheap.

The LCD would look better, but if you're referring to the large screen ... well, they have it if you get the Navi, right? Otherwise, getting a generic LCD to display just fixed text is overkill. It's not cheap and what kills you is the LCD controller and software/firmware for this thing. It may not sound like a lot, but consider the volume of vehicles you move and multiply it by even a $10 difference (it's actually much more than that).

I think the segmented display in the newer Acura's is one of the better looking ones I've seen, I don't have an issue with it, though I do have the Navi anyways :-)

I have to agree with you on the display however I think the way the interior as a whole is finished is a bit disappointing.

Although I actually like the overall design and layout of the RDX's interior I find the grade of materials and finishes to be slightly down market. I know this vehicle was developed before the 09 TSX but that car has a clear advantage in material selection and overall finish vs the RDX and the original TSX.

I'd like to believe this will be addressed with the next generation RDX as I hope it can at least equal the materials and overall presentation delivered by the 09 TSX and TL.

I really think this is an area where Acura should focus on as the level of craftsmanship and overall presentation tends to vary greatly model to model. I know the more expensive vehicles will have a better selection of materials however in terms of presentation and quality of construction, Acura needs to set a high standard for themselves and implement that standard across the board.

Mercedes is a fine example as the grade of materials increases in quality the higher the model (which it should) but the level of craftsmanship and overall presentation is for the most part equal across their lineup.

Is it suicide for a luxury car maker to offer cloth seats? I'd much rather have cloth, and great looking everything else.

Had a ride in a Fusion Hybrid. That car's display is impressive. A good LCD screen, little programming and you are good.

Right now it looks like a combination of the Accord and Nissan Murano.
