Sorry for the outage all, the guys at our service provider were apparently moving some of their other customers around and somehow accidentally and unknowingly yanked our link out. It's too bad they were doing that crap on a Friday night when their normal support hours are from 9-5, M-F. I filed a trouble ticket late last night. I had to get up early and drive to Athens today and didn't get back home until late this afternoon and they still hadn't responded to the trouble ticket so I was getting worried and called their emergency line and left a message. In the mean time, I was able to determine that all of our equipment was functioning perfectly. They eventually called me, I explained what was up, and they dispatched somebody to the colo and that guy hooked up our link and we're up again. I'm just glad I didn't have to go over and swap out a server or switch or something...

At Cisco we believed in five nines reliability... 99.99999%.
Unfortunately the "user community" over at the ISPs is comprised of clowns who have gone to Microsoft school or -if they're lucky- got CCNA training.
Yanked the cable... OMG... what a bunch of idiots.
It reminds me of my days with the ISDN connection in the mid 90s. The telco techs kept putting ferrite beads on my lines every time they went down into the vault, as if they were "normal" voice lines. End result would be that my nice ISDN line would go kaput. Eventually someone got smart and tagged my lines as ISDN so no one would mess with them.
But, in the meantime, I'd go down for a day and a half... and that was with the priority service I got. Except, of course, that ISDN service was handled by a specific office that was only opened 5 days a week, 8 to 6....
