Anybody else think that Civic resembles a VW Jetta in that rendering?...the front especially. Sure hope the next Civic doesn't look like this.:)

I have to say I quite like it - but question it's credibility. If you put together elements of the Accord, current civic and Insight this is exactly what you would get. So there's a certain lack of imagination and originality.

About the front they say it's going to follow the new JDM Ody theme.
You can also find it both in the Clarity and in the Insight.

Looks like a sedan version of the Insight to me.

I knew Honda would screw up the 9th gen. So far looks horrible.
Thats the real reason for the delay. The 8th gen was too good. Everything about it was perfect. This is why the 9th should be epic fail compared to the 8th.
This pic reminds me of a kia.

Looks good- It appears the windshield is not a deep, perhaps getting back to more of a conventional dash which should help with the current blind spots and cut down on the massive dash on gen 8.
Honda needs a home run and I hope this Civic is the one. This size car is going to be the standard in the future- The peoples car. I would put all my top engineers on this FMC.

I do see quite a few VW design elements and thats not a bad thing. The Civic rederings body is much crisper vs the current and it has more cohesion overall. I hope Honda will keep it similar to the current while offering the crisper lines of this rendering. Anyone have any ideas or assumptions on the available drivetrains?

No no no!
This is very clearly a design that takes elements from the Clarity and Insight. The 8G Civic is great, except for the A-pillar blind spots. I would be surprised if the 9G didn't have the same good visibility in the Insight design.

Actually, I'm seeing a little of the City that Jeff mentioned in the design too.
I also see the Accord and Insight elements that others mentioned. I don't know. I'm getting a really 'cheap' vibe from that rendering for some reason.

Yes, this rendering is hideous and spells cheap. The 8th gen looks very upscale and the design very cohesive and futuristic when compared to this crap. Luckily this is the version Japan is getting, hopefully we will get a nicer JDM ody front end civic.

OK, so the speculative rendering (I've a hunch it's by Stehrenberger) looks a little flat and unsurfaced.
That's a good enough reason to burn the company to the ground already!

No, having VW styling is not a bad thing, except it looks more like the last generation Jetta rather than the current one. And that is a bad thing because it screams "DATED!"

At least Honda is at least willing to make their next gen cars at least look different.. cough *Toyota Corolla* cough..

I am not buying the rendering. The Civic has pretty aggressive styling and I doubt they would go so conservative on it. Honda plays the aggressive and forward styling one generation and conservative the next with the Accord, but not the Civic.

I wouldnt be surprised to see a more conservative 9 gen civic. One of the biggest complaints about the civic (always from female customers btw) is the invisible front end and the supposed parking problem that results. So a less slopey agreesive front might happen. The other common complaint is the antiwhiplash head restraints which force some women (never men) to crane their necks forward uncomfortably. this is sometimes a deal breaker. Never the case with men - women must have straighter posture. Then there's the road noise - corolla is quieter...(sorry I know it's a scratched record).
On the subject of which, I had to demo a 96 Civic DX yesterday and was shocked by the amount of soft plastics - seemed to be none of the scratchprone hard stuff we get now.

It would be quite a bloody shame if the next gen Civic loses it's agressive, sloping front end. That's one of two things I don't want to see changed, the other being the 2 tier dash design.

I know what you mean- I purchased a 98 sedan for my son last year and was impressed with the quality of materials for a civic that old. Looking back that was a last civic(6 gen) to have DB front suspenders and that last forever interior. IMO gen 7 was a step back in many ways, with the exception of the G-CON body engineering.
