V10 NSX... nice car, really nice but not the heart of Honda.
Heck, the heart of Honda is small displacement, high output, lightweight bodies and efficiency. A V10 is none of that.
A V10... those of you who really like that stuff.. go buy a 'Vette. Hopefully they'll still be building them.
Gimme instead a Fuel Cell powered NSX. Add some high output batteries for the IMA.... a vehicle that has the equivalent of 300 bhp and 350 ft/lbs of torque..... put in a programmable CVT into it. 2800 lbs, two seats..... 3400 lbs, four seat... AWD with ceramic electric motor/generators built right into the wheel assemblies...
Hmm.. maybe that's simply too much..... put a fuel cell in a FWD Fit, with something like 140bhp and 150 ft/lbs... While your Vette will have to slow down for the turn, I'll take it balls out.
You may be faster than me on the straights, but in the turns I'll fly around you. Around gas stations, I'll fly by you too.
Been there, done that, hope to do it again.

I'll bump my comment past all of those irrelevant comments from the clowns who'll never be able to afford a TL.

Tony,
Once again you may have hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately many who have replied to this thread of the NSX's passing could never afford one anyway, myself included, especially if they were talking $150K+. What I said in my previous thread is that Honda is a very smart company ran the Japanese way, meaning thorough. Believe me, my wife of 21 years is Japanese and their beliefs are much different than the typical American way of thinking. Honda would never accept a BAILOUT, it just isn't the Japanese way of doing business. I spent 11 yrs in Japan, have seen the Honda factory in Saitama, and witnessed first hand how Honda products are produced. The NSX (they say....) is being cancelled, but I believe after all the money, and man hours spent on the project, that it is being mothballed for the time being, and then after the economy rises again, Honda will ressurect the car and return to its glory days again.
Oh yea, and by the way I could afford a TL :-)

Those complainers have admitted that what they really wanted was a poster of the next NSX for their bedroom wall. Assuming their mother would let them put a poster on their wall in the first place!

What the whiners really hope for is the halo effect of a supercar so that they can be smug for driving a Honda, even though it may be a Civic.

That's something I don't really understand with people saying a Halo car is needed. Why exactly? Are you (generalized)ashamed of driving your Honda that you can preach about some Halo model and your car has trickled down tech.
I crave a NA2R, but now that they sell for more than they did brand new, I will never be able to own one and also not living in Japan anymore makes it even harder to dream of one day having one.
Even with that being said, I could care less if the NS-X never even existed. I'm confident with the size of my manhood, even if it isn't quite PORN material, that I don't really need to justify to anyone what brand of vehicle I drive. My passion for Honda will always come down to the way Soichiro brought up the company from nothing and doing so with the Toyoda family and Nissan group doing all they could to sway the Japanese government to not allow him to build automobiles as he was not worthy enough to build them. Another reason I completely despise the Toyboat company.
As I stated in another post, I am very happy with the choices Honda has made right now. The reason is because what it means is that they are looking towards the future and will hopefully still be around when I am into my 70's (if I make it there) to be able to keep buying a Honda.

The GT-R hasn't helped Sentra sales, so I don't see what the NSX's impact would have been. Acura isn't ready for a $150K supercar just yet. They need a flagship sedan for halo FIRST then later maybe get a sports car of sorts (maybe just a sub NSX type sports car and not a full blown super GT).

Maybe not Sentra sales, but it sure does help Altima sales and 350Z sales and it sure will help 370z sales.

I don't think it's helping Altima sales. Maybe the Z but the Altima sells itself. Have Altima sales increased since the release of the GT-R? No. Yes that can partly be blamed for the economic crisis, but Altima sales I believe have been unaffected by the launch of the GT-R.

Like you all said, the NSX is nice but sort of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things.
OTOH, I do hope AHM keeps building an S roadster. I may buy a car like that once my kids are out of college -assuming my creaky old bones still fit inside. ;-)
In the meantime, it's Fit time... and yes, I've owned every generation of TL/Vigor available in the US... except for the current power plenum'ed one. :-P
Hmm.. you all wonder if AHM could save money by getting rid of all of that power plenum metal and going back to something like the Euro Accord grill?

Even though the "NSX" is out of our budget, I would have still liked to have seen its capabilities and witness it go up against the worlds best. People forget these types of cars let the engineers/designers truly stretch their legs, lets Honda deliver a product that can go against the worlds bests such as Porsche/ Ferrari, and truly lets Honda show off their motorsports heritage to the fullest degree (for a production car). Although this car isn't a necessity for Honda's survival it does however bring traffic in the showroom regardless of being able to afford it or not.
I don't think Honda can afford to scrap the effort all together as its already pretty far into its development, I just think Honda has postponed its debut until the market is stable again.

Yeah I seriously doubt it has been scrapped forever, but that is possible, just not very likely. With all the resources poured into the next generation (HSC) or completely new model (with what the Cali studio made up) a ton of money has been or would have been dumped into this vehicle.
Honda should of just came out with the HSC to begin with, it was beautiful (to my eyes anyways), actually looked the part of next gen NS-X and if it performed anywhere near the way it did in GT4 it would of ripped up the competition and the new R35 wouldn't be what it actually is right now.

As long as they kept it light it would be alright. Sub 2700 lbs would have been possible and a next gen 3.0-3.5 liter V6 8-9k rpms. Yumm.

I've been waiting for years for a 280hp, 3L Prelude weighing in under 3,000#.
The AP1 S2000s are 240hp and around 2740# with the spare tire and tools deleted.
Considering this is barely 200#s heavier than a 117hp Fit, I seriously doubt Honda will ever release a real "sports car" weighing less than the S.
The new 370Z has over 330hp and weighs in at 3200#. Even if you hate Nissan, we all know if Honda came out with those numbers all motor, we would all just flat out cream ourselves.
I would still take 10 less hp for every 100#s saved. So 2900# and 300hp for about $32K sounds insanely perfect for the reincarnated Super-Lude :)

Yes possible. With the use of very expensive carbon fiber, plastics, ceramics.....and probably double to triple a price tag.
