Hey im kinda new to the honda scene.. i have a 1989 honda crx hf and i also have purchased from a friend a jdm b16a. i have a few questions to ask.. may be a long post so bare with me plz.. first off i have pulled the stock engine out of the crx. i have not attempted to install the b16 yet untill i have gotten some good advice. i want to know what i need to do to the mount system to make the b16 fit correctly. secondly. the b16a i have has been bored 30 over and has ctr pistons installed. these pistons are a fairly high dome and im concerned about clearance. can i run stock vtec cams with the ctr pistons? with no pewter mashing? a little info on teh head it has never been milled and im gona run a stock headgasket. next question i have is.. when i got the engine it had no tranny.. i have a b18a1 tranny from a early 90's acura integra ls. this is the only transmission that i have right now i was wondering if i could use it untill i get a newer beter one? and what wiring harness and ecu am i gona need for this swap? hopfully you guys can help me out with some advice/info im getting ready to do this very soon.. thanks

Ron

Ok, your car is a 1989 car so most likely you'll have purchased the cheaper 1st generation B16A. This engine should bolt right in and the main difference b/w this and the later ones is the cable clutch (vs hydro) and the OBD0 compatible distributor. (I haven't done this swap but I'm pretty sure this is right).

I believe the B18A1 has a cable clutch as well, so they should mate ok, though the LS gearing is often criticised for it's excessive length (hehe).

What does "bored 30 over" mean? Slight overbore with oversized pistons? Anyway, I don't think you have to worry about clearance if you're using stock cams. Not an issue.

You need the OBD0 wiring harness and ECU to make it plug and play. Or you can try and rig up your own VTEC ECU if you're good with electricals. Try http://pgmfi.crx-forum.org for some info.

yes the transmission i have is a s1 cable transmission and intermediate shaft.. from what i hear i can use the gen 1 integra axles with no modifications for this swap?? is this correct? also can i use the clutch cable that came on the crx stock and connect it to this transmission? and will it work properly? and yes the engine is slightly overbored with ctr pistons.. thanks for your help with the previous response i appreciate it greatly.
thanks ron

To be really sure, I would call Hasport 602-470-0065 or www.hasport.com for engine mount and wiring conversion but I know that first generation B16 bolt right and I know that they have smaller cam too. I think Hondata or Zdyne can sold you ECU with one wire conversion too.
