Compressor Clutch for AC doesn't seem to be engaging    (Score: 1, Normal) 07-17-2007 21:13

I was driving on the interstate 3 days ago and felt like i ran something over in the road, however i did not see anything before I felt this. Nearly immediately after that happened, my AC stopped working. Air comes out of the vents, but it is not cold, it is like just having the outside air come in. after looking under the hood, the compressor clutch doesn't appear to be engaging. I'm not sure if something fell out from under my car which is vital to the AC system, or if i ran somethng over that i didnt notice and it punctured an important part. If anyone has any solutions to how i might repair this or what may be causing it please let me know. thanks.

I had something very similar happen to my car. I was driving down the road heard a pop like something had either fallen off the car or hit the bottom of it. But didn't see anything on the road before or after. Turned out the shaft between my clutch and compressor had snapped. Fortunately I still had a couple of thousand miles left on the warranty. Could also be a rock in the condenser or something like that as well.

You could have damaged a line or the compressor is not working. Either way you’ll probably need to have it serviced. Prepare to pay at least 2-300 if it is a line and over 500 if the compressor is shot. I'm probably thinking more that a line or the condenser is damaged. Since the car is fairly new.
