Hello, I am new to Temple of Vtec. I have purchased my first honda. It is a 05 accord 2.4. I am impressed with the cars performance, but had questions about motor oil and performance tips. I am running Mobil1 5w20 synthetic and have a KandN air filter to help gas mileage and performance. Any other tips someone has?

The modifications available depend on whether your car is a 5MT or 5AT. Either car can use a cold air intake, which will return nice gains. If your car uses a normal throttle cable, you could also use a Hondata Kpro. A good exhaust will work nicely as well.

With a cold air intake, exhaust and tuning (either with a Hondata, or in the case of a 5AT a VAFC) you can easily pick up 20-25 hp and a nice slug of torque.

Here's a tip- get rid of the K & N air filter-take a look over at the BITOG site-used engine oil analysis-most people running a KN air filter are reporting high silicon levels in used engine oil Silicon is an abrasive (like microscopic sand) and causes increased engine wear on any moving parts. Then do some due diligence on the actual dyno proven horsepower gains on this engine using this filter-last time I looked it was about a 2 hp gain which would not be felt by anyone's butt dyno.

The BITOG site will give more info than you'll ever need on engine oil. I have the same car and am running Castrol Syntec 5-20 with excellent used oil analysis changing oil at 5K miles

Yes as Steve20 reports the K&N filter is a waste of money for the little gain it provides. Besides the point of causing possible engine damage.

Just to stack onto the thread, a few people on 8thcivic.com and BITOG have reported fouled MAF/IAT sensors from the original filter oil. By "original", I mean the pre-oiled factory filter; this rules out the possibility of an uninformed consumer using too much oil after cleaning the filter.

Despite K&N's claims... even though the majority have no problems with this filter... these few individual cases are enough to deter me from the product.
