Advanced Vtec could be the reinventation of Honda once again.......and this is extremely exciting news to me. Especially word of class leading power.......280+hp is incredible and the Accord could turn out to be even more balanced than the current TL-S........CAN'T wait!! ..Now with some Honda performance cars high amounts of torque have been sacrificed for high redline ......so with A-VTEC, is it possible to see high RPM redlines AND have high amounts of Torque.......or does the inverse relationship of these two factors kind of void that out?

AVTEC reduces friction by 13% so it benefits both hp and torque.

It may result in a flatter torque curve but its probably not going to result in significantly more peak torque since that is largely a function of displacement. You'll find that the best of the high performance engines achieve between 70 and 75 ft-lbs of torque per liter. Even F1 engines are only at around 80 ft-lbs per liter so don't expect a lot more torque from the same displacement on these AVTEC engines.

Honda have not sacrificed low-end torque for high-end power. VTEC helps both. The reason some people think so is because they compare engines of different sizes. As a rule Honda makes power with revs, using small displacement (hence lower torque than competitors), which is perfectly fine since power makes a car go. If you need torque then look at another company, almost all of them use either large displacement or turbo to make power, so you'll have the torque.
