New Si sedan owner here, with zero experience waxing a car. I've read about Zaino et al on the forums here. Just received some Stoner products (interior cleaning), and see that they also have some spray on wax products (BeadMax or something like that name).

If anybody has experience with this simpler sounding approach, can you give me some idea of the difference in results compared to a full Zaino-type treatment. For example, if I can get a 20% worse shine for 75% less effort, I would go with the easier way. Also, with no experience, I figure there's more likelihood I will screw up with a complicated clean and wax process. Thanks for any input.

There are a million different answers to your question. It sounds like you don't have a hard-on for buffing your car every day, so forget about Zaino. It's expensive and time-consuming, and you can get similar results with less.

In general, paste wax is far superior to spray wax; it lasts longer and contains more real carnauba. If you're looking for shine, it all depends on how much money you want to spend. One of the best (and most expensive) options is the Pinnacle Souveran Concours Wax at ~$80 a jar. Depth and shine is magnificent, but it's not durable at all.

I use P21S Carnauba Concours Wax, which is a respected wax in the detailing community. It's a great balance between shine and durability, for about ~$30 a jar.

However, if you're looking to save time and effort long-term, look into an acrylic sealant. Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze is ~$25, and is well worth the money. I always put several layers of sealant on before applying a couple layers of wax.

If you're looking to learn more about detailing, this website is a great place to start.

I'm a little confused as to the "buffing your car every day" comment in reference to Zaino. I put 5 layers of Zaino on my Si last August, and I haven't buffed my car since. The shine is still incredible. Water still beads up on the surface, and bugs still don't stick to the surface.

The process of applying Zaino really only becomes time consuming when you're applying multiple layers, which is totally optional. Of course, the more layers you apply, the more protection you'll have. As time-consuming as it may be initially, the results pretty much speak for themselves. Protection is super long-lasting, and the shine is top notch. I'll vouch for Zaino, as will many other people here I'm sure.

Zaino works well but is way too expensive for what you get. The system consists of many, many products, which is how Sal makes his money. The numerous products and multiple layers will take days, especially if you allow each layer to properly cure for 24-48 hours.

One layer of Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze (or any paint sealant, for that matter) will 6-8 months, and is a better protectant than wax. I personally apply about 3 layers of KSG, which is enough to last one year with nothing besides carwashes. I put wax on top every month, but it's only for the shine; the sealant is what does the bulk of the protecting.

Paint sealant + wax protects and lasts just as long as the entire Zaino system, and you save lots of money in the process. Zaino is just unnecessary, unless you crave the feeling of accomplishment from applying the entire system (about eight different products).

tele, waiting 24-48 hours is totally optional. The ZFX flash cure system cures the wax in 30-45 minutes, and works very well. I applied multiple layers in a matter of hours. The system I applied did not consist of 8 products. I applied one layer of the Z5 wax first and used Z2 for the rest. I then apllied the Z6 shine enhancer (optional) to finish up. That's only 3 products.

im sure that expensive, time consuming waxes do the trick, but in my experience, the cheap one are just as effective. When i bought my accord in sept 05 brand new, i started using rainx fast wax just for protection from the weather. i didnt feel the shine needed to be enhanced at all. this product works wonders. it is quick and easy and beads water like nothing else. as time went on, i noticed that the paint was not shining as well as it could be. I started using a turtle wax liquid wax which did the trick. It made it shine and it looked better then new. the only problem is that it is a bit of an effort at times. i see that it can be a bit difficult to get off but now with more experience, it comes off in a jiffy. just recently, i discovered the ultimate combination. first, turtle wax ice polish to boast the shine and then the wax for protection. i have tried to do this atleast once a month if not twice. although the winter has halted my car washing regime. when im not using either, i use the turtle wax spray detailer which doesnt protect the car but boasts the shine dramatically and gives alittle bit of protection from dust and dirt collecting of the surface. but not much. i wouldnt know if it is the products that give a great shine but im positive it is. it could also be that honda makes one of the most shine and metallicy clear coats and graphite pearl color ever.

Let me just add that if you're the type that doesn't care to or have the time to wax/polish your car every 1-2 months, then I would most definitely recommend spending the initial time and effort on Zaino. Like I said...incredible long lasting brilliant shine, with minimal effort to keep clean between waxing sessions.

Well, the starter kit costs $80 and consists of 8 products. Also, the fact that you have to buy an additional product (zfx) for the "fast curing" action is another sign that Sal depends on flashy marketing to make money.

But I admit, I am biased against Zaino. I used to use it and was very sastisfied with the results, but discovered Klasse since then and realized my mistake. Just try Klasse Sealant Glaze, and maybe you'll feel the same way.
