If I remember correctly the red Honda logos are not Type-R style, but the other way around: Red Honda logos show a Racing Honda, and the Type-R machines got the honour of wearing them. :)

That's a plausible story, with two exceptions....
(1) I have a number of T-shirts and a hat with Honda Racing on them, and the Honda Logo is not like the Type R.
(2) The CART cars, "Powered by Honda", had engines built by Honda Racing. The Honda logos on the cars where either a simple outline of the H and circle around it in black or white depending on the color of the car.
Of course, this is just the AHM operation.

Well, I'm not sure that this is an official company policy the red logos, but normally (with some exceptions) you see if on all faster-than-normal-Honda's Honda's. :)
Maybe it started with the Type-R, but I think the NSX had a red logo as well.
