If this rumor is true, wouldn't this canabalize the Accord Coupe V6 sales.
Would Honda even offer both in the Coupe lineup, perhaps leaving the V6 to the Sedan only?
And where would this leave the rumored next-gen TSX coupe?
So many questions...so confused..how many days until Detriot?

Don't you think that the turbo accord is more like the mazdaspeed 6. HOT will have more HP than the V-6 more likely but the V6 will probably only be FWD while turbo will be AWD.

The RDX's 2.3L turbo actually produces less HP(240hp) than the current V6 (244) but substantially more torque (260 to 211). The two side-by-side in the same car would create GREAT material for forums at TOV and nightmares for dealers as everybody would want lengthy test-drive time to compare and contrast these very different power sources offering similar performance.
However, we do not know what power the V6 wil offer in the 08 Accords, rumors have ranged from status quo to A-vtec enhancements to jumps in size to 3.2l or 3.5l. Basically we don't know.

there is no way the turbo is going in the sedan right away. the whole point of putting it in the coupe (if at all) is because it's a low volume seller. this enables it to be thoroughly tested in the realworld before being applied to a broader model range. remember that the prelude fulfilled this roll for honda before it's demise. it tested the vtec, 4 wheel steering, and sh steering. it could also be there is not enough production capacity to put it in a high volume car like the sedan.

Thats because Honda opted to stick with 240 HP. In performance sedan application, I won't be surprised if they tuned the output to 270+ HP for 2.3/Turbo with about same torque output (if not better) as RDX's.
This can serve a marketing purpose that Accord is available with a 270+ HP engine (more than its competition), while the V6 models might continue using J30 (may be a bump in output to 250 HP) or J32 which might be kept around 260 HP.

So the 08 Accord Coupe will come in how many engine/tranny configurations? 6 (
1) I4 NA 5spd
2) I4 NA Auto
3) I4 turbo 6spd
4) I4 turbo Auto w/paddles
5) V6 6spd
6) V6 auto
This is assuming the Hybrid does not make it to the Coupe, which seams reasonable.
My point is that a lot of way to split up total Coupe sales.
So what happens to V6 sales when the turbo 4 can blow it away but offers more refinement?
OR will the Turbo 4 only be offered in SI trim with SH-AWD??? That's my guess for now.

I said this in another thread, but I have a feeling that if we do see an "Accord Si" with this rumored turbo, we may not see V6/6MT. The Accord Coupe lineup may look like this...
LX/EX: 2.4/I-4, AT or MT
LXV6/EXV6: 3.0-3.2/V6, AT
Si: 2.3T/I-4, AT or MT

I would be really disappointed if Honda stopped making the V6 6MT Accord Coupe. I would love to see a break down of how it has sold since hitting the market. I know that more I4 are sold, since that is almost all that I see on the streets, but the V6 is too much of a good thing in the 6MT for Honda to just drop it. Unless the sales numbers have not been there.

I've been looking at getting a new Accord EX V6 coupe w/6MT. Let me say that every dealer I talked to was sold out of the 2006 models, and every time they get one in stock it's either pre-sold or gets sold off the floor in a day or two. I've decided I will have to make a comittment whether I'm going to in fact buy one before March, and then walk into a dealer with cash to hold the next one they can get in my color.
So, in other words, I seriously doubt Honda has had sales problems with the V6 6 MT, either coupe or sedan. It might be that Honda keeps the production of them limited on purpose (the best companies do keep that age old supply/demand thing in check), but either way, they sell EVERY one they build.
It would be a shame for Honda to discontinue this drivetrain combination in lieu of a turbo'd 4 cylinder. I know they could make the T4 Accord with a 6MT really fast, but you have to put up with premium fuel, synthetic oil, and honestly I've never been convinced anyone can make a turbo as reliable as a non-turbo. That V6 could go for 300k with only oil and belt changes and new spark plugs, whereas a turbo could burn up in less than 200k if you don't use synthetic oil and always warm it up before you drive it hard and let it cool after you do.
Too much to think about.

im pretty sure we will see the v6 come back.. a lot of american buyers preffer ONLY v6 because they feel its far more reliable.. The Turbo is really still in its beging stages and will not be replacing ANYTHING yet.

The Accord Coupe will be offered with a 4cyl Turbo and a V6 engine. The Accord Sedan will be offered with a 4cyl NON Turbo and V6 engine. The 4cyl Turbo is NOT replacing the V6 in the Coupe, its in addition to.
