I don't disagree with you with respect to the sale of the vehicles. However, if I buy an Acura from an Acura dealer, I should be able to receive warranty service without going 150 miles. Honda dealers can provide that without being allowed to sell the Acura.

i'm pretty sure around here (bay area, CA) you can take acuras to a honda dealership for service, and you can take hondas to an acura dealership for service. this is only for maintenance like oil changes, and stuff. warranty work, however, will not be touched by the other brand's dealer.

So the RDX pretty much loses every performance rating except handling? Ouch. So much for V6 power with 4cyl fuel economy. Its more like weak v6 power with poor fuel ecomony.

People dont buy Suvs to go canyon carving.

Its 400 lbs heavier than the RAV4 - thanks to the superior luxury content and superior AWD system. That affects performance. The 1/4 mile is a little slow compared to what we got, but I'll bet MT tested the car west of the Mississippi, which meant 91 octane instead of the 93 octane we used.

The RDX is a kick ass small lux SUV. The only question, do enough people want a vehicle like that in this category?

It better have a better interior and a better drive train, somethings gotta account for the 7k extra dollars. The caliper badge isnt worth THAT much.

I guess im underwhelemd by the acceleration and the fuel economy is appalling. I was hoping for best in class acceleration figures and better gas mileage. Maybe the target numbers would have been best in class 2-3 years ago but Acura forgot to account for moving targets. The next gen X3 is coming along with the Audi SAV. All im saying is they should have tried a little harder to really set a new benchmark.

What I am about to say may only be a factor in Canada and in smaller towns where there is no Acura dealer. Acura, the company is very arrogant in Canada. Their strategies are built around the large population centers of Canada. In the smaller areas, from a population perspective, they don't give a damn. So when comparing these three vehicles, I have to consider the company, not just the car. Toyota and Mazda are more the main stream dealers and are found in many more places in Canada. Acura is not. Acura will not allow Honda to sell Acura nor will they allow Honda to provide warranty service. In most cases Honda dealerships cannot even access the Acura parts databases and are only able to order a part if you know the part number. Even then, some Acura specific parts cannot be obtained. So in my town, Kingston, Ontario, the nearest dealer is 150 miles. An Acura in my town is an orphan. A Toyota or a Mazda is not. That may not be a deciding factor but it is a factor.

maybe it's just in Kingston.. i know a few Honda dealers in Toronto will service Acura cars, Honda can also provide warrenty work if the client is some few hundred miles away from but they need prior approval. hope this helps/

But when compare to Rav4. it's a full second slower from 0-60 and needs extra 10ft to stop from 60-0, and gas mileage is almost 3 mpg worse. If you run a 0-60-0 test RDX probably will be 2 seconds behind Rav4. As of handling, since MT picks the limited V6, it'll be interesting to see if handling improves if they pick the sports V6 with stiffer suspension and 18" wheels. For sure it won't beat RDX but the gap will be closer.

In terms of price, don't forget that even though a base RDX costs $33k, you can also configured a 4x4 Sports Rav4 with JBL stereo and bluetooth hands-free for around $26k. Granted RDX has more features and better handling, but that's still a $7k difference. Not that it's not worth it but it depends on your preferences. Just like some people think that a $2k-$3k premium for a Rav4 V6 compare to a CR-V 4 bangers is crazy.

I'm hoping Acura comes out with a Type S RDX is a few years. 20" summers tires, upgraded brakes, stiffers suspension, improve SH-AWD w/ more agressive settings, Turbo 300hp 300lb-ft of torque. All for 41k or just under the MDX's base price of 42k.

Apparently, badge is something that is bothering you. Leave beyond that for now, and realize that the as-tested price for RAV4 was only about a grand less than base RDX (note, they tested RDX with tech package with NAV... no such liberties with the Toyota and Mazda).

$7K? No, about $1K in this case.

Would have been awesome if Honda could match Mitsubishi and Subarus turbo fours in hp/tq numbers. The K23 turbo leaves much to be desired. Perhaps in the MMC they will increase its potency.

I think it should have offered around 260-270hp, the torque rating already seems sufficient enough.

The Rav is ok offers decent overall performace and great gas milage but its STILL in a different segment whether you like it or not. The interior design and material are certainly not up to the RDX's standards either. Not that there bad but again its in another segment. In the end you get what you pay for.

The thing is, a Sport RAV4 V6 is not as sporty as an RDX and a Limited RAV4 V6 is not as luxurious as a RAV4. With the RAV, you're forced to choose sport or luxury, and the extent of their attributes is limited severely by it price bracket.

So if we're talking about 15% more (maybe less) to upgrade to a base RDX from either a sport or limited RAV4, it's easy to see where the money goes. It's like getting two better refined RAV's for the price of. . . a little more than one.

first of all it's stupid comparo why compare rav-4 with RDX
rav-4 is competing with crv. and there is no equivalent of V6 power in the CRV so it's stupid comparison anyway

I think Honda is stupid for not building a CRV-6. It makes perfect sense and wouldnt take away sales from a Pilot at all. Want a 7 seater and plenty of room? Buy the big car. Want a small runabout with plenty of power get a CRV-6.

We test drove a auto Crv and there were 4 adults in the car. On a steep grade, the car felt like it was going in reverse. I would love a CRV with a V6 for around 30k.

Im not so sure on a turbos reliability so id stay away from the RDX for at least a few years. Hondas reliability has been less than stellar in the last car i purchased.
