My ATF is low. I want to put the Honda ATF-Z1 in it like suggested in the manual. But its so low I'm afraid to drive my car 45min to go pick it up at the dealership. Would it be ok to use Dexron III ATF for now?
I have a maintance appointment the 18th. Could I get them to drain and refill it with Honda ATF-Z1 when I go, even though its not at 60,000miles like the maintance schedual says that should be done?

Jenn,
Just to be sure that you are indeed low on ATF, did you check the fluid level with the car running (in park) and with the car warmed up? The temperature of the fluid has a lot to do with the level that is indicated on the dipstick.
If your level is so low like you say, before the change interval, you may have a leak somewhere.
I believe that Dextron III should be ok to top off the tranny with, also, it never hurts to be proactive about changing fluids so asking the dealer to do a drain and refill won't hurt anything but your wallet. But I still would be suspicious as to why you are low on ATF if you checked the level as described above.

I dont think it is leaking. I just dont think it had ever been checked by the previous owners. From what I was told they were really old and didn't drive it too much. So it would get low after 2 years without being checked wouldn't it??
The manual doesn't call for inspection of the ATF til 60,000miles, so I dont think the dealer checked it eighter.
I did put Dexron III in it, but... do you know where i can find one of those little funnels? I tried to put it in that little freakin hole with a little bit bigger funnel and i ended up having to crawl up under the car and clean it where it ran down the side of the little tube (not fun!). I looked at AAP and AutoZone... and I can't find one. Urgg... I hate living in this small town! Nothing anywhere!!
