I agree...it looks good overall, but, what's up with Honda putting hoods on their cars that have absolutely no character lines??? I think it looks just blah. Check the difference in our Accord and the Inspire hoods...it's amazing the difference just a few lines can make. I suspect this has something to do with Honda's "Safety For Everyone"...but that doesn't really make sense because "Everyone" should mean EVERYONE...not just us here in the US.

Very frustrating. I am considering buying a Fit within this year, but certainly wouldnt mind getting a next gen Fit instead.

This is exactly why I won't buy a Fit now. I really liked everything about, but with the next generation looming over it I just won't. I guess I'll be forced to spend a little more and get a Civic, which isn't bad but I really did like the utility of the Fit.
Sigh.

i went ahead and got one from this generation...i'm sure i wont regret it when the next gen comes out weighing 200 pounds more, being bigger, and costing more. the whole appeal of the car (to me, at least) is it's tiny, flingable, practical, light nature. reminds me of old school hondas, and i feel like the next one will step it up in class, and of course be a super vehicle, but it will lose the current gen's charm...sorta like how the civics have done.

I love the wheel arches on the xA and am glad to see on the next Fit (hopefully). Besides, they've all been stealing ideas from one another anyway. :) And hopefully, Honda will also offer a sedan variant. ;)

I agree with you that the artist's depiction of the next Fit looks pretty good.
But, that said -- and I do not mean this to be critical of you or others who have commented on the picture -- it seems to me that this looks like a tall EP3. That Honda was the subject of a lot of criticism, some related to its performance and some related to its "minivan" appearance. Thus, it seems ironic that this Fit "minivan" is seen as a swell idea in light of the EP3's history.

Personally, I think 2nd-generation Fit will use body design derived from the 2006 Honda Civic sedan, but will look like a "tall wagon." Expect external dimensions to be almost the same as the current Fit in deference to Japanese and European driving conditions, where small external physical size is a must for the narrow streets found in European and Japanese urban environments.

I don't think so. Civic is now moved toward mid-size. And I don't thing it can accomdate Magic Seat.
Fit will remain on it's own platfrom.

I think that the times and American tastes are changing, becoming more sophisticated. I happen to own and LOVE a 2004 EP3. It's such a fun everyday car...practical, quick(not fast), descent handling, and it gets respectable gas mileage too. I also love the way the EP3 looks and I think like the last generation Prelude and the Isuzu Axiom, it's styling is way ahead of it's time. Minivan-esque it may be, but, the shape is extremely useful...I think we'll be seeing a lot more of this in the future.

I, too, have an EP3, so you don't have to convince me of its strengths. My only regret is that we didn't get a chance to purchase the Civic Type R. But everything else about the car is a delight, particularly the quality of the interior. It just strikes me as ironic that the EP3 sold at such a whopping discount to MSRP, and now buyers are lining up to buy a car -- the Fit and its possible successor -- that's just as, shall we say, "distinctive" in its appearance, and pay a premium price for it. Go figure.

But the Fit starts at 13k and offers so much more than the 19k EP3. Also, the Fit has 5 doors vs. the EP3's 3 doors.

yeahhh, and the "whopping discount" wasnt THAT much...i mean i LOVE the EP3, its by far my favorite honda body/chassis/style ever, but hey, the Fit was only 15 and a half bones, and thats about 2 grand cheaper than i could finagle an EP3. it also has 2 more doors and gets way better gas mileage. its a lot more fun to drive than you might think...

Actually, I should have said the body design of the new Fit is inspired by the body design of the current Civic sedan. Sorry for the confusion. :-/

so for those ppl who DONT believe in hybrid save money on gas WILL buy fit now. but for those who think HYBRID does reduce the fuel cost will buy it later.

The Civic has the same fuel economy as the Fit, and the Fit doesn't offer a Hybrid now so I wasn't comparing hybrid models when I was looking last week. Right now a Civic Sedan LX is a better deal to be than the Fit Sport, mostly because I don't want to buy a new car when the next generation may be out in a year or two. I'm not trying to discourage people from buying the Fit, but regardless of how much I like the utility of the whole package, it just isn't for me right now.

I don't want to start a food fight, but I feel compelled to respond to your comment that the Fit "starts at 13k and offers so much more than the 19k EP3." I disagree.
First, I'm sure someone actually paid $19k+ for an EP3, but I've bought two and neither one cost more than $18k, tax paid, sitting in my driveway. Yes, the MSRP was over $19k, but again, I don't know a soul who paid within $2k of that. (I'd be embarrassed to tell you how little I paid for my '05 -- it was a sensational deal -- and typical.)
However, you'll have to explain what about the Fit, other than two more doors, constitutes "so much more than the EP3." Again, I'm not trying to start a food fight, but the EP3 included a ton of standard equipment & features: a full 2-liter motor (blessed with a torque curve perfectly used for communting); an immensely rigid chassis, alloys, SR, ABS, great seats, etc. (And, the little things are equally impressive: e.g., the EP3's leather-covered steering wheel is identical to that in the S2K, and a joy to the touch.) The somewhat comparable Fit I saw last weekend listed for more than $16k, which buys you a lot of plastic. Add in the tax, prep, etc., and -- unless you can get a solid discount from the Fit's MSRP -- you'll end up paying far more for a Fit than I paid for my '05 EP3. (Ok, I stole my second EP3, but you get my point.) The Fit's certainly a nice Honda, but it's hardly a bargain.

I wasn't thinking in terms of equipment, more of performance. It is way better FE, safer (w/ std Side Curtain Airbags), offers a 5AT with paddle shifters, a lot better utility, 4 doors, a lot more room for the back seats.
As for equipment, Fit Sport offers, AT, Foglights, Side Curtain Airbags.
Si adds Moonroof, 16" wheels.

You're right. The Fit certainly has more room, and it is a lot more versatile. And with four-doors, it's more of a "mini minivan" than the EP3, a hatchback, ever was. The Fit's standard side airbags are also a real plus for safety. My only point was that the Sport model, particularly one with AT, becames a $17k-plus car. With sales tax & the usual fees -- absent a hefty discount -- you're well over $18k.
That said, I like the car. I particularly like the drawing of the next one. It's just that I don't think the Fit Sport is a bargain. EP3s, on the other hand, typically discounted at least $2k and often $3k, were. But, whatever a Fit Sport ultimately sells for, the two cars are really as different as chalk and cheese.
