i bought meguires or however the hell you spell it gold premium wax and car wash. bought some of those nice leather towels to dry the car. black magic tire wax, and f41 or somethin like that interior cleaner.

do any of you recommend something else that is better?

overall i spent almost $81 for all that. 2 sponges, 1 bucket, 2 wax applicant sponges, meguires gold wax ($10), meg car wash concentrate ($8), chamois towels, and i think thats it.

sorry for talking in such an annoying manner, but i'm tired. i'm gonna wash my car tomorrow, but i want to know if this is the real deal, i only want the BEST stuff for my car. before i open any of this, anyone have any suggestions?

Check out http://autopia.org/forum/index.php? if you'd like to get some techniques from a nice bunch of chaps who have made a living out of detailing cars. You'll have to register though.

Just make sure you use a sheepskin wash mitt (or something similar) and I would toss the chamois in favor of a waffle weave towel (dries better, lasts longer, and less of a chance of marring the paint). Something like this:

cheap micro fiber towels are sometimes even worser then just finding any old rag on the floor to use on your car. i agree with porky you should buy some microfiber for your car at www.autopia-carcare.com they also have some excellent sales with other supplies also.

I've said this before, so here it is again anyway. I use the Mr. Clean auto dry wash thingamabobber, I thought it was gimmicky at first, but after using it I love it (especially on a nice warm day). By the time you move to the back of the car, the front will be dry already. It does a good job of cleaning, smells nice, and you don't really even need a bucket, so it makes washing a lot faster (especially w/ a new baby & 2 cars). Plus, you don't need to run anything over the surface (chamois, absorber, etc.) so there is less risk of any accidental scufs or scratches by picking up a pebble or something. I've got a new Habby Red Si, I live in New England, the things already got beautiful clearcoat, plus I had the Dupont R2000 paint protectant and sealant applied at the dealership. I don't feel the need to wax, or do anything else crazy for a while. If you got the time and money, knock yourself out (I probably would), but if your strapped for time, heed my advice.

Definitely buy a bottle of Meguire's ScratchX. This stuff works wonders on buffing out small surface scratches, swirls, scuffs, etc. Apply like wax to the effected area when car is clean, then buff out with a microfiber buffer (by hand, don't use a machine).

Everyone should have this stuff. I use it nearly every time I wash my car to get those annoying surfaces marks that occur from everyday driving.
