What is the better motor to get power out of? I know the 2.2 liter has a little more torque that hits a little quicker but does anyone know if this actually is better in the end. Keep in mind that I want to tune it either way. Which one can you get more juice out of???

In my opinion the 2.2 is the better motor for everyday use. I commute with my 05 20+ miles daily and the added torque of the larger engine coupled with the revised gear ratios makes life in traffic far more bearable. I have, though, run up against the rev limiter when passing on a 2 lane road (I was in 3rd). I never experienced this in my 02 Si, which had fewer gears but required constant rowing and clutching to keep the pace up. Having driven an 03 S2000 and the 05 which i bought back to back on the same day, it was clear that the larger engine was easier to put through the paces and less demanding to drive at speed.

If you plan on tuning it, and you'll be doing an ECU (which you should - I recommend the AEM EMS), the 2.2 is the better motor. We can safely take the rev limiter up to 8500 rpm on stock internals, which really helps (since peak power is right at the limiter stock). Depending upon the header and exhaust combo you get, we can also drop VTEC to between 3800 and 4200 rpm which gives you a huge, fat powerband.

That really depends on if you want to stick to S2000's soul and depend on atmospheric, revving up to 10000s or if you want to force induce the S2K like every 9/10 owners do out there. (which, IMO, makes Celica a better choice if you wanna force induce) For the atmospheric case, 2L engine is better since its comp.ratio, pistons and piston retainers etc. are more durable for higher revs. with the aid of Toda Racing pistons, camshafts, crankshaft, Amuse(japan) ECU and oversized valves, S2ks are known to rev up to 10800RPMS with outputs that nealy pass the 350hp threshold. You should keep in mind that force induction is by far cheaper.
