Some people might think this is a stupid question to ask on a forum, but, I'm desperate!

I recently spun out my s2k, and caused about $1200 in damage. What can I do to regain my parents' trust for them to let me start driving it regularly again?!

You spun out because the car is too much for your skill level. Stay away from it for now and try not to do stupid things when you do get the keys back.

Ronin is right: the S2000 is far too much car for a new driver. You really need to get some proper training to learn a few things:

1) How to handle the vehicle.
2) Release your pent up driving aggressions in a proper environment.
3) Hopefully learn to not drive like a jackass.

I'd look into a local autocross club. Once you have at least 1 full season behind you, you might consider hitting some performance driver's education weekends at a local racetrack.

Unfortunately, your parents should never have purchased the S2000 for you. That's a glaring oversight on their part. If my parents had let me get the car I wanted when I was learning to drive (Pontiac Firebird Formula), I probably wouldn't be here today; it's just too much car for a new driver. Add to that the simple mentality of a younger driver (there's not much you can do about that).

So, get some driver training and take it easy on the street. Otherwise, sell the car and get something with FWD.

Find an empty parking lot where you know cops won't be a problem, and just mess around for a while until you get a good understanding of the limits to your car.

Just remember when your in a turn, NEVER let off the throttle. If you have too, let off slowly. Letting off the throttle induces oversteer and enough of it will cause you to spin out. Also, never brake mid turn ... that is the worst possible thing you can do with an FR car.

The best practical thing you could do to learn how to drive it is autocross or take a course. However you getting involved in "racing" may not be seen as a positive.

Try doing some chores, getting good grades and generally try to create the illusion you are responsible.

BTW, you're parents are nuts for giving you that thing. Thank God, my first car was a 73 bug which couldn't go fast enough to kill me.

Heheh, I was trying to buy a '89 Toyota Supra for my first car. My dad kinda put the brakes on that one. I ended up with half the horsepower driving the opposite end of the car ('89 Accord).
