I would like to pick up a short shifter for a 99 Acura 1.6EL. Since this car is only in Canada, it is hard to find parts specifically listed for it (and I have not found anything for it). Is it safe to pick up a short shifter for a Civic of the same generation that the EL is based on? (ie, go buy one badged for a 6th gen civic).

Additionally, what type of things do the Civic and EL share? Like what areas would be the same/different.... as far as shopping for parts goes?

Yup, I used to have a 2000 EL Sport and 97 Civic LX, exact same tranny setup as the Civic sedan, so get the short shifter for the 6th Gen Civic it will fit perfectly. The only difference between the 2 cars are front & rear end styling and the knobs for A/C and the stock stereo, and of course Leather & Moonroof depends which model you have. 1st Gen EL & 6th Gen Civic Si/EX(US) share over 70% parts together so you can basically swap anything you want.

Oh and I forgot to mention the EL has Intergra Rotors and Civic Calipers as front brakes I believe. Either that or the other way around, dont remember anymore.
