My friend just bought an '05 Base RSX and we are both finding the stock head unit/speakers to be extremely weak. I just wanted to post to see if others felt the same...or maybe we have the settings extremely screwed up...or if the head unit/stereo is just not that great. It doesn't seem to have a low end at all and an extremely weak mid-range. It's the first system that I can honestly say doesn't sound very good and I'm definitely NOT an expert.
I know the Type S has the 6-disc in dash and the subwoofer, but he's got the base. Any suggestions on making the factory system better through settings, etc. or is it just a good idea to put in an aftermarket setup?
Thanks.

I don't think the Type S version is much of an improvement, and sadly I don't think there's much to do in the way of setting the base unit to sound much better, either.

Yeah, that's kind of what I figure. At least the motor sounds good, even if it is the base.
It's sad the stock unit isn't any better...I think my Civic EX at least had better speaker placement and maybe even sounded a little stronger. Hmmmm...hopefully we'll figure out something. So far that is the only gripe about the car....

I have a Type-S and I wasn't happy with the sound system it came with. what I did? I changed the Bose 6-CD changer-radio with an Eclipse CD head unit. You can get away from adding an additional amplifier with the 8-volt preamp output of the unit. You'd be surprised what this thing can do. Cost: $400. Next, I replaced the subwoofer power amp with an Extant 1.1 mono amp that kicks out 100 watts of bass power. The size of the amp? About 6"x6"x1.5". Tiny compared to other power amps. Cost: $300. Next, I replaced all the speakers with Polk full range fronts and mid range in the rear. Cost: $250. Throw in another $100 for Monster cables and other wiring needs. so for about $1000, you can have a VERY decent sound system that will envelop your senses even when driving in high revs.
Hope this helps.

Does the base model RSX CD-player play CD-R discs? My 1997 Accord CD player has trouble with them and I am looking to buy a base RSX.

I have a 2002 with the non-Bose system and I have no problem whatsoever playing CD-R's.

i feel the same way about the 05 RSX having a weak stereo
and it looks like the headunit is directly stripped from the 05 civic.. only diff is that it says Acura instead of Honda

I tested a Base recently, and the bass is not good. I turned it up +2 and it sounded a little better, but not much. Just enjoy the drive.
