I have only driven the a 04 RSX Type-S once and was so blown away with the car that I have decided to purchase the 05 this summer. While I was in the dealer the salesman described the clutch as having an elastic quality to in (at which I just nodded and smiled). What does that mean? I guess I wasn't paying attention to the clutch when I drove it. I was just amazed at the ease of drive (Sooo smooth compared to VW's which now seems a bit notchy for me).

Beats me unless he was referring to how nice it feels in general.
Test drive an '05 before you make your decision. I believe the consensus is that it is an overall improvement, but I for one am turned off by the shorter final drive (= higher hwy revs).

I drove the 04 S model and discovered 4th gear at 60 mph was too high for comfortable cruising. 5th was OK, but if the gearing on the 05 is even more so than the 04, I would have a problem with that gearing also. I like to cruise at about 80-85 mph, all other conditions being equal, but a buzzy 6th gear would not work for me.

I don't know much but during the test drive I was doing 80 in sixth and I didn't find it that noisy. In fact, I was surprised at how quiet it was considering the high revs. I find that my Jetta 1.8t is much louder than the 04 Type-S at 80.

How many revs does it turn at 80? I couldn't drive it that fast on my test drive.

I cant remember exactly I believe 3000 something. The thing that really surprised me was that I didn't even realize I was doing 80 until I happpened to look down at the speedometer quickly. In the Jetta 1.8T you can definately tell you are going 80 because of the engine, wind, and tire noise. The only way to cruise in that car is with the radio on pretty loud. This car was just so much quieter than what im used to.

Excuse me for butting in (again)... RSX-S at 80 in 6th gear should rev around 4000rpm based on '05 gearing.
The older RSX-S had 4.39:1 final drive
The newer one has 4.765:1 !

This was ripped from Hondanews site, hope it helps:
"Despite its high-performance 6-speed design, the RSX transmission is lightweight and compact. In addition, it employs a wide-angle, clutch-torsion mechanism with two-stage hysteresis to greatly reduce the gear rattling that plagues many conventional 6- speed transmission designs.
Further refining the transmission's sporty, high-quality feel is a short-stroke clutch pedal for quicker shifting, a hydraulic damper integrated with the master cylinder for reduced clutch vibration, and an innovative clutch-friction material for improved clutch engagement feel."

That doesn't sound like a recipe for relaxed motoring, unless the NVH is way down. 4000 rpms at 80? Yikes!

I drove an 04 Type-S so I believe it still was in the 3000's. But If Acura did what they said they would do with the car in terms of sound dampening it still should be better than my Jetta 1.8T. I am going to be test driving an 05 in june when I get back from Scotland (i've been living in Scotland since January for work related purposes). I personally don't see how the 05 Type-S can possible be louder than my Jetta (unless you've driven a Jetta 1.8T at high speed you probably wouldn't understand how loud it is.)

Actually the K20A2 is pretty quiet at 4K rpm. Even the K20A3 in the Si is buttery smooth at that range.
Really, if you thought the B18C was smooth, the K20s are much better. And the NVH of the Si/RSX-S are waaay better then the old GSR. But then you already know that.
4K rpm in an RSX-S is really not a taxing experience at all.
And... just imagine what the new gearing will do off the line.. if the older model easily chirped the tires on the 1st to 2nd shift, the new one has to be something like a bullet coming out of a gun.
I keep telling myself that a TSX AT5 at a good price will keep me happy.. but then my wife keeps reminding me of the RSX-S...

I find my '04 RSX-S to be satisfactory cruising at 4000rpm. I drove an Si(R) as well, but that seemed too noisy for me.
