I have recently experienced my first ever clutch problem with my acura integra gsr. The problem first occured about two weeks ago while driving sown the road. It started out as a small noice, like metal on metal, evertime I would downshift. It eventually escalated to everytime I depressed the clutch pedal. Then about a week ago, I was driving it home from work, came to a stop sign, and it would not go into gear at all. I could depress the pedal to the floor, I was trying to put it into gear, but the stick would not go in, no grinds nothing like that, it just wouldn't go into the gear.
Well now that all of that is said and done, I am planning to take the tranny off to have it looked at. I am planning to replace the clutch when this happens, but thats when the question arrises. I was told that if I get a clutch that can handle 300 ft. lbs. of torque, instead of getting one that is matched a little better with my cars capabilities, it could harm the car? I was always under the impression that a stronger clutch, would just mean that it was guaranteed to grab ahold. I was also told that my down-shifting could be the culprete for my clutch problem? If someone can enlighten me a little better, or let me know about a link on the web that may explainmy concerns and maybe even my problem.
Thanks

When my clutch went out (at 98k miles), I replaced it with another factory one. I figured it was worth it if it lasted that long.

I would recomend checking out the clutch master cylinder. They are prone to leak, check by the pedal under the dash. If there is fluid there then replace the cylinder. You might want to replace the clutch if it has hi miles. I recomend a 12LB flywheel if you are not a big performance junkie like me. You might also have syncros going out, they are prone to go out on hondas. Let us know what you find.

Good point. I forgot about that. Yeah, I had my clutch master cylinder replaced twice so far on my GS-R. Luckily the first time was under warranty... the second time, however, cost me a couple hundred.
