Howdy Cy: I'm up in Calgary and have aranged to switch out the OEM BS summer tires for something else. The dealer is pushing the Michelin's. I have read good reports on the Toyo product, and have a set installed on my daughters Mazda Protege, with good reports back from her.
I notice that Tire Rack does not carry the Toyo brand. Could you still give any feedback as to thier applicability to the TL and how they would compare to the Pilots. My main wants form a tire are good performance in variable weather ( it is Calgary, Canada ) and I also want a relatively quiet tire. I have a hard time with road noise.
Comments from others are welcome.

I can only comment on the Michelin A/Ss and they're not on my TL, but are on my 03 350Z. I replaced the OE tires and have put 7500 miles on the them with not one problem. They were purchased from Tire Rack and Road-Force balanced,. This was important because I have a staggered setup, 225/50/17 front and 235/50/17 rear.
I am still wrestling about puting them on my TL, because I would have to pay for them out of my pocket. That aside, they are great tires in wet or dry conditions. I haven't driven them in snow because we received very little the last few years. I really like them and I tried to get a set on the TL, but Acura won't pay for the replacement. I may still put them on soon because the OE tires are lousy in all conditions. I think you would like them, but the Toyos have a lot of fans too. Perhaps other owners will comment on them.

I had a set of Toyo T1-S's on my Protege and thought they sucked. The T1-S is supposedly their best tire and is priced accordingly. They rode nicely and were very quiet--but the sidewalls were just too soft for spirited driving. The tires'd roll over quite a bit, so rapid right-left-right transitions were a bit unsettling...and it took a second for the back of the car to catch up to whatever the front was doing. However, ultimate grip WAS outstanding once the tire bent over and hunkered down...
For comparison's sake, I had a set of Michelin Pilot XGT H4's on there before and they were outstanding. The sidewall was MUCH stiffer and the car instantly changed direction. And these were by no means the type of performance tires the T1-S's were supposed to be. Heck, even the Bridgestone RE92s that originally came on the car cornered better.
So, yeah, I would go with the Michelins. They're expensive, but they're worth it. Tires are one of the few things I never skimp on.

Although we don't carry Toyo we do get some indirect feedback on them . . . unfortunately most of it's on the street/race RA-1 tire. Given the flatspotting problem on original Bridgestone's I would recommend avoiding any tire with 2 nylon caps if possible. I don't have construction details on the tire so you'd have research further with Toyo.
For an Ultra High Performance All-Season, I'd consider the Pilot Sport A/S fairly quiet. The only other tires to consider would be the Pirelli Pzero Nero M+S which is out of stock nationally for about 3 months and the Avon Tech M550 which is arriving later this month.

I'm from Calgary too. I know what you mean when you talk about weather. Have you thought about Yokohama tires ? Personally I have a set of ES100 they do everything pretty well other than road noise. I would recommend the AVS dB S2. My friend has it on his civic and they are pretty good for all season tires. I don't know how the Michelin's are but I would think they are on the same level.

I had Toyo Proxies on my Accord, they were warrantied for 65000 miles, but lasted only about 30000 for me, I drive pretty hard though. The place I bought them refused to honor the warranty because I didnt get them rotated at a Toyo dealer every 3000 miles (even though they were worn evenly and I had been rotating myself - they were just worn out). So if you get them make sure you read the fine print.
In anycase, I liked the tires in terms of performance, I kept them on through winter (In Ohio) and was impressed with their snow/ice grip. Yet ultimately, I decided that they road a little too hard for my taste. They made my car feel like it needed a new suspension - it wasnt very bad at first but after about 6 months (10-15K miles for me) they became obnoxiously hard. After about 20K miles, they began to lose quite a bit of grip in the wet about and probably should have been replaced, but I kept them until 30K when they started hydroplaning on me so I ditched them - they were nearly bald by that point anyway - very dissapointing. In my opinion they wore out WAY too fast.
So I bought an el-cheapo set of Kumho's to replace them, and surprisingly I like them alot better than the Toyos. Much better ride, nearly as much performance. If they last half as long Ill be happy, because they cost half as much haha.
Goodluck with whatever you get.

It's a done deal..going with the Michelins....
More history for this tire size on the TL. The dealer had not installed any other tire than the Michelin as a replacement on the new TL. The Pirelli's and Toyo's were very much discouraged by the dealer and his rep..( who carried all these brands by the way ) as not being robust enough for true all season in the larger tire sizes ( something to do with the footprint?? ). Interestingly, Toyo had the distinction of being easier to deal with than Michelin if a warranty issue did occour???
Again, thanks to all who took the time to respond with their thoughts.

Howdy: Feed-back time. Had the car for about a week. Put the Michelin's on, and would have to sy they look good ( basic black, right).
The grip on dry and wet is good, imho, though I haven't had the car anywhere close to sideways, or pushing any limits. I would say the feedback is good . Only small negative would be the slightly higher tire noise from the Michelins vs, the stock BS summer tires. However, it is not to the point of being anoying. I think these tires will earn thier keep on some frosty morning when we've had some freezing rain that still is sticking around on the road surfaces. Problem is , that can happen almost any month of the year in Calgary ( snow in Mayis almost a given!!). As such, dedicaated summers did not make sense for me.
Cheers
