I just got this car and its very stock. I'm worried about how long this engine can last, so I'm trying to shop around. Is there any D16 SOHC VTEC that can bolt in? I don't want to weld in anything on this very original, unmodified car.

Yes its an EF Sedan. What engine can bolt in? I'd prefer a D16 SOHC VTEC if possible ...

I'm not to sure about the D16 but it should fit, however I just that I think it'll require about the same work to fit in the b16 except that you'll need the bonnet and other front parts from the EF9. Other engines that I've seen are B16B, b18C & B18CR.

I think a lot depends on budget. An EF9 half-cut might cost 5k or so but by the time you factor in labour and other incidental costs, the total 'out the door' cost creeps to near 10k. One of the SOHC VTEC engines on the other hand are hardly in demand and the half-cut for an EG8 for e.g. (D15B 130ps SOHC VTEC) might cost less than 2k. But the downside is you won't have SiR spec brakes and brake pump.
