Acura Integra Radiator    (Score: 1, Normal) 07-12-2004 11:54

Hello Group,
I have an Acura Integra 1993. Recently, my radiator started leaking. I have purchased a new one and like to install it myself. I have never done it before. Can you advise on how hard it is to put the new one in. I would also appreciate any URLs or instructions on how to do it.

Thank you in advanced,
Reza

its not very hard and it doesnt take that long, i changed the radiator in my 92 integra to a fluidyne unit and it took maybe an hour.

1. drain the cooling system.
2. disconnect the connectors to the fans. the fans can be
removed with the old radiator.
3. disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses, if it has an
automatic tranny then disconnect and plug the cooling
lines at the bottom of the radiator
4. remove the hoses to the coolant reservoir.
5. remove the radiator bracket bolts at the top of the radaitor
and lift the radiator and fans out as 1 unit.

6. install the fans to the new radiator, then drop the unit back
into the car.
7. attach all the hoses that were removed, then fill the cooling
system.

Thank you for your instructions uspmdmc,
I will try to get it done this weekend.

Do I need to disconnect the battery?
I looked under the car yesterday, didn't see the lower hose.
must be above the plastic cover that is located under the card.

Thanks

yes, you should disconnect the negative battery cable. the lower radiator hose is located directly below the upper hose at the bottom of the radiator. it goes from the bottom of the radiator to the thermostat housing.

As a safety check to make sure fans don't turn on while handling radiator? I can appreciate the attention to safety, but as long as the ignition is off, it seems redundant.

Just curious. I replaced an Integra radiator a few months ago and didn't disconnect battery b/c Helm didn't mention it.

It's just a general precaution so as not to accidentally ground a short or create a spark or what have you.
If you're carefull it can be avoided.

Technically the fan switch should be independent of the ignition switch - the fan has stayed on after I left the car, which suggests that it could turn on whenever it feels like it, potentially while your hand is in it.
